Day Shift (United States)

Under the general guidance of Supervisors, Managers, or Directors, you will conduct clinical laboratory tests following established protocols that require independent judgment and accountability. Your responsibilities will include maintaining equipment and records, performing quality assurance tasks related to testing, and potentially supervising and training others in the laboratory environment.

• Accuracy: Ensure precision in patient testing, quality assurance, proficiency, and competency evaluations.
• Critical Thinking: Utilize clinical and theoretical knowledge to analyze, investigate, interpret, and report laboratory data.
• Job Knowledge: Stay updated on personal training, education, and adherence to policies and procedures.
• Productivity: Employ organizational skills to optimize time, resources, costs, and access to laboratory data.
• Communication: Engage in monitoring, investigating, resolving issues, and effectively transferring information to team members.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned.

• Maintain accuracy in patient testing and quality assurance:
  • Adhere to departmental standards for patient or specimen identification.
  • Meet departmental error rate standards in testing and reporting.
  • Document investigations and interpretations of quality assurance failures.
  • Achieve acceptable scores in proficiency and competency assessments.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of testing instruments.
• Analyze and report laboratory data:
  • Provide accurate lab data within established turnaround times.
  • Understand the connection between lab results and clinical findings.
  • Interpret information from various sources.
• Monitor and communicate information effectively:
  • Follow procedures for tracking laboratory test statuses.
  • Document all relevant elements in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Transfer information according to departmental protocols.
  • Consistently uphold organizational standards of behavior.
  • Take responsibility for corrective actions based on feedback.
• Contribute to laboratory performance improvement and readiness for inspections:
  • Assist in evaluating new testing methods and writing procedures.
  • Support inspection preparations.
  • Engage in laboratory performance improvement initiatives.
  • Implement cost-effective processes while maintaining high-quality data.
• Stay current with training and compliance:
  • Keep up-to-date with organizational policies and procedures, including LIS.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory regulatory compliance.
  • Adhere to safety standards.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and project teams.
  • Complete required educational training on a regular basis.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Science, General Science, or a Master’s degree in a related field (preferred).
• Licenses and Certifications: All certifications must be obtained upon hire unless specified otherwise:
  • MT(ASCP) - Medical Technologist
  • MT(AMT) - Medical Technologist
  • MT(AAB) - Medical Technologist
  • MT(HEW) - Medical Technologist
  • MLS(ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Scientist
  • MLS(AMT) - Medical Laboratory Scientist
  • MB(ASCP) - Molecular Biologist
  • H(ASCP) - Hematology
• Experience: A minimum of one year of laboratory experience is preferred.
• Skills:
  • Proficient in computer/data entry.
  • Effective communication with healthcare team members.
  • Familiarity with EXCEL, Word, and basic computer operations; experience with Epic and 3M is a plus.
