Job description

Job Summary

The Northville Health Center is an Ambulatory Care facility comprised of clinical and diagnostic services, dedicated to providing high quality health care services for Adults and Children. The 2-story facility is located in Northville Township. We are seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient-oriented individuals who will share in the goal of creating the ideal experience for our patients, families and employees.

Responsibilities*

The Northville Health Center Kellogg Eye Center seeks to improve lives through curing, preventing and treating eye disease. By performing basic tests and procedures under the close supervision of medical and allied health staff. Mastery of all basic tests and procedures.

Perform the duties of an ophthalmic technician, as well as:

  • Perform ophthalmic tests and procedures with proficiency in the ophthalmic sub-specialties
  • Coordinate follow-up care of patients
  • Assist in training and coordinating the work of ophthalmic assistants and technicians
  • Participate in research studies
  • Actively assist in clinic workflow, scheduling of technicians, communicating delays to patients
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor
  • Provide exceptional patient service
  • Assist in clinical procedures
Required Qualifications*

ASSOCIATE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from high school is necessary; two years of college with courses in health science area is desirable.
  • Successful completion of Michigan Medicine's 12-week training program is required or some experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is required.
  • Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is required within one year of employment.
  • This classification requires Primary Source Verification.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from high school
  • Reasonable experience as an Ophthalmic Technician
  • Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology
  • This classification requires Primary Source Verification.

  • Associate's Degree in health care
  • 1-3 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and medical terminology is desirable.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
