Will a medical coder be replaced by AI?

Medical coders perform tasks that require understanding complex medical terminology and coding guidelines, which AI can assist but not fully replace. While automation tools can improve efficiency and accuracy, human oversight remains essential for handling complex cases and ensuring compliance. The role is evolving to include more oversight of AI-assisted coding processes.

Are medical coders still in demand?

Medical coders are still in demand due to ongoing needs for accurate billing and record-keeping in healthcare. The role requires knowledge of coding systems like ICD-10 and CPT, and employment opportunities are expected to grow as healthcare services expand and electronic health records become more widespread.
