Job description

We are seeking an experienced Medical Coding Specialist to join our pediatric practice. This part-time, hybrid position will be responsible for accurate and timely coding of pediatric medical services, reviewing claims for coding accuracy, and assisting with the resolution of coding-related denials and billing issues.

Our practice consists of 9 physicians and 7 mid-level providers across three locations, providing a collaborative and fast-paced environment.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review medical records and assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and applicable HCPCS codes.
  • Ensure services are coded accurately and in accordance with payer requirements and coding guidelines.
  • Review claims for coding errors prior to submission.
  • Research and resolve coding-related claim denials and rejections.
  • Assist with identifying trends in denials and recommend corrections to prevent future issues.
  • Review and update claims as needed based on payer requirements.
  • Work closely with providers and billing staff to clarify documentation and coding questions.
  • Stay current with coding guidelines, payer policies, and industry changes.
  • Assist with other billing and revenue-cycle duties as needed.


Qualifications

  • Medical coding experience required.
  • Medical billing experience preferred.
  • Experience working with claim denials and appeals preferred.
  • Pediatric coding experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Athenahealth (Athena) EMR and its billing/coding platform preferred.
  • CPC certification is preferred but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a hybrid environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
