Pay: $18/hour
Shift: Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM

Job Overview for Material Handler
The Lee Group is looking for a Material Handler to work at one of our valued clients in the Richmond, VA area. In this role, you will help keep manufacturing operations running smoothly by receiving, retrieving, transferring, and storing parts and materials throughout the facility.
The Material Handler will move materials between receiving, production, storage, assembly, and shipping areas while maintaining accurate inventory records. This position involves operating forklifts and other material handling equipment, using RF scanners and computers, and working in an active manufacturing environment. If you have previous material handling or shipping and receiving experience and are comfortable operating a forklift, we encourage you to apply!
Job Responsibilities of Material Handler
  • Fill requisitions, work orders, and requests for materials or stock items and distribute materials to fabrication and assembly areas.
  • Assemble orders from stock and move orders to pallets, shelves, packing stations, shipping areas, or trailers.
  • Read production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, and requisitions to identify materials that need to be moved or distributed.
  • Inspect product loads for accuracy and safely move materials throughout the facility.
  • Stack and assemble materials into bundles and prepare them for movement.
  • Load and unload materials from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves manually or using material handling equipment.
  • Move materials between receiving, production, storage, and other designated areas using hand trucks or forklifts.
  • Sort and place materials on racks, shelves, or in bins according to designated locations.
  • Use computers and handheld scanners to access information, record transactions, and verify data.
  • Accurately record materials received or distributed and complete inventory transactions.
  • Operate forklifts, cherry pickers, sit-down lifts, and stand-up lifts.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area.
  • Follow company and departmental safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Monitor work areas for materials that are running low or out of stock.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support business operations.
Job Qualifications of Material Handler
  • Minimum of one year of previous shipping, receiving, or material handling experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Previous forklift operating experience required.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift and parts picker lift.
  • General computer and data entry skills.
  • RF scanner experience is helpful.
  • JD Edwards experience is helpful.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements of Material Handler
  • Ability to stand and walk on concrete surfaces throughout the workday.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to handle materials and equipment.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift, pull, or push up to 35 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
  • Ability to lift 36 to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and shades of color.
  • Comfortable working in a loud manufacturing environment.
