What is a medical lab tech?

Medical Lab Technicians (also known as Medical Laboratory Technicians or MLTs) are healthcare professionals who perform laboratory tests on patient samples such as blood, urine, and tissue. These tests help doctors diagnose, treat, and monitor diseases. MLTs operate complex laboratory equipment, maintain accurate records, and ensure quality control in the testing process. They typically work in hospitals, clinics, or diagnostic labs under the supervision of medical technologists or laboratory managers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a medical lab tech?

To thrive as a Medical Lab Tech, you need a solid background in biology and chemistry, an associate degree in medical laboratory technology, and certification from agencies like ASCP or AMT. Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS), microscopes, and automated analyzers is essential.
