Job description

Job Overview

Fairview Range is hiring a Medical Technologist for our Laboratory Services Department in Hibbing, MN.

***We’re offering an up to $10,000 sign-on bonus for a two-year commitment!

The MLS/MT functions independently in performing all major work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. A MLS/MT performs a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing and acts as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. The MLS/MT correlates data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. The MLS/MT collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote customer satisfaction. The MLS/MT participates in laboratory improvement activities.

Schedule: This position will work 72-80 hours per two weeks.  The shift length will be 8 and 12-hour shifts that include days, evenings, nights. Weekends: Every other weekend.

As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for:

  • Collecting and processing biological specimens with appropriate technique following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Performing testing analysis and verifying assay/analyzer performance according to SOP in an efficient, cost-effective manner. Any combination of the following areas may be included: Hematology, Coagulation, Microbiology, Serology, Immunology, Immunohematology, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Urinalysis, Phlebotomy.
  • Explaining test procedures when applicable to patients in a manner geared to gain cooperation and relieve anxiety about the procedure.
  • Acting as a resource for problem solving, corrective action and troubleshooting for lab procedures and unexpected events in lab operations.
  • Participating in the lab Performance Improvement program by collecting data, reviewing the results and implementing corrective action recommendations.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. in related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA '88
  • Medical Lab Scientist through ASCP within 1 Year or
  • Medical Technologist through ASCP prior to Jan 1, 2004 or Clinical Lab Science

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory or Medical Technology. MLS(ASCP)CM or MT(ASCP) prior to Jan 1, 2004
  • 3 years' experience in clinical laboratory
