Job description

Company Description

WD is building the infrastructure behind the AI-driven data economy.

As AI scales, so does data. Every interaction, every model, every system generates data that must be stored, managed, and made accessible over time. That's where we come in.

We combine deep engineering expertise with global-scale manufacturing to deliver the storage systems that make AI possible, powering hyperscale data centers, cloud platforms, and enterprise infrastructure worldwide.

This isn't theoretical work. It's real systems, at real scale, people solving some of the hardest challenges in technology today.

We're looking for people who want to build, solve, and operate at that level.

Join us and let's shape the future of data.

Job Description

WD is seeking a Drive Failure Analysis and Reliability Integration Engineer to join the Hyperscale HDD Development Team. In this role, you will help identify causes of HAMR and ePMR HDD failures by analyzing manufacturing, engineering validation, and reliability test data. You will work at the intersection of hardware engineering, reliability, data analysis, and product development to provide clear findings that support next-generation storage products.

What You Will Do

  • Analyze failures from manufacturing, engineering validation, and reliability testing to support root-cause determination.
  • Partner with HDD Development Engineering, Manufacturing, Customer teams, and Reliability partners to define analysis plans and next steps.
  • Use bench electrical failure analysis measurements, characterization data, and manufacturing data to determine likely failure causes.
  • Document failure analysis data, summarize findings, and communicate conclusions to technical stakeholders.
  • Apply programming and data analysis skills to improve reporting, trend analysis, and engineering efficiency.
  • Support corrective action discussions that improve product reliability, quality, and recurrence prevention.

This role is part of WD's early career development program. WD's early career development program is ideal for individuals at the early stages of their professional career.  Participants receive foundational training through structured onboarding, mentorship, and a curated development curriculum. The responsibilities of this role are typically aligned with candidates who have approximately 0-2+ years of relevant professional experience, though candidates of all experience levels are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Recently completed a BS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Right to work in the US without requiring Western Digital to commence or sponsor an immigration case in order to employ you now or at any point in the future.
  • Academic, internship, project, or research experience involving data analysis, electronics testing, reliability, hardware, manufacturing, or technical problem solving.
  • Familiarity with one or more programming or analysis tools such as MATLAB, TCL, Python, R, C, or C++.
  • Strong organization, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multitask, take direction, and collaborate effectively within a technical team.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to electronics test equipment, data extraction, data visualization, statistics, hardware debugging, or manufacturing analytics.
  • Interest in HDD, semiconductor, storage, reliability engineering, failure analysis, or product development.
  • Internship, research, capstone, lab, or project experience that required technical documentation and data-based recommendations.
