Schedule: Monday - Thursday 8:00 - 5:00, Friday 8:00 - 3:00

Summary: The Medical Lab Assistant is responsible for assisting with various in-house testing while ensuring that all patients receive quality care within the lab. In collaboration with the Lab and Radiology Manager, the Medical Lab Assistant ensures they are in compliance with all federal grants, OSHA, CLIA, and Hunter Health Clinic policies and procedures.


Essential Functions:

  • Assists with processing urinalysis, hematology, microbiology, serology, and chemistry tests.
  • Performs blood draws to obtain samples from patients per the lab orders requested through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Processes and orders tests from outside labs from the EHR.
  • Recognizes and seeks clarification on abnormal lab results as instructed.
  • Assists with maintaining inventory and the ordering of supplies for the department.
  • Maintains complete logs and/or electronic records for all tests and pap smears.
  • Implements and maintains new testing procedures as instructed.
  • Assists with training of care team medical assistants and new lab employees.
  • Collaborates with the Lab and Radiology Manager if any concerns or problems arise in the department.
  • Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Documented training or certification appropriate to laboratory specific tasks is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, within 30 days of hire.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a healthcare laboratory setting is preferred.
  • Experience in phlebotomy is required.
  • Bilingual abilities are preferred, but not required.
