What We Offer
Novant Health Hilton Head Medical Center is looking for a Medical Lab Assistant II to join the team!
Shift- Friday-Sunday, 5a-5pm
Team member is responsible for pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, to include order processing, specimen verification, centrifugation, aliquoting, etc. Team member validates and processes specimens delivered to the laboratory, facilitating timely and appropriate specimen preparation for testing. Team member may be responsible for performing phlebotomy. Team member must be able to make decisions and solve problems, recognizing when to involve leadership support. Team member is responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are followed. Team member will advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software, as necessary.
What You'll Do
  • Perform pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, including order entry, specimen verification, centrifugation, and aliquoting
  • Accurately receive, label, and prepare specimens for testing while maintaining strict quality and safety standards
  • Perform phlebotomy as needed, ensuring proper patient identification and collection techniques
  • Support laboratory operations by managing worklists, tracking specimens, and ensuring timely turnaround
  • Communicate effectively with clinical staff to resolve specimen or order issues
  • Maintain compliance with all laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with training and onboarding of new team members as needed
  • Contribute to a safe, efficient, and patient-focused lab environment

What We're Looking For
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Experience: One year of relevant phlebotomy and/or specimen processing /laboratory experience, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Phlebotomy Certification - ASCP, NHA, ASPT, AMT or a national accrediting agency approved by Laboratory Senior,required. Leadership MLA certification from ASCP, CMLA certification from AMT, preferred.
  • Additional Skills (required): For facilities where Phlebotomy is a requirement of the role, the certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment. Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly.
