Overview
About the Role
The primary purpose of the Billing Specialist position is to ensure accurate and timely processing of all patient and insurance billing, follow-up, and correspondence for University Hospital.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do
  • Performs pre-billing preparations as required for electronic and manual claims submission.
  • Reviews pre-bill edit/error reports and makes necessary corrections; Resubmits claims.
  • Obtains and/or corrects any missing data elements required for billing purposes.
  • Mails all hard copy claims to the appropriate insurance carrier with attachments, if required.
  • Responsible for insurance billings, including verification of coverage, accurate submission, and follow-up.
  • Maintains and prepares daily billing and follow-up logs and statistical reports.
  • Reviews denied claims for accuracy of denials; resubmits with corrections, if warranted.
  • Investigates missing patient charges and inputs correct data. Reads medical records to ascertain information for re-billing.

Qualifications
What You'll Bring
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible clerical experience required.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a physician's office, hospital billing office, or insurance company.
  • Experience must include billing, collections, and/or medical insurance activities.
  • Prior experience working in a computerized environment required.

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is Probationary Rate$29.09-Two (2) Year Rate $30.48.
