Job Description:
Job Summary
Responsible for providing advanced technical expertise and operational support for the healthcare radiation safety program to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote safe use of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in clinical environments. Performs complex evaluations, radiation exposure assessments, and safety audits across the healthcare enterprise. Collaborates with clinical teams, patients, and staff to manage radiation risks and implement protective measures. Supports education, training, and quality improvement initiatives related to radiation safety and medical physics practices.
Essential Functions
• Provides radiation safety consultation to physicians, staff, and patients regarding radiation exposure, protective measures, and compliance with safety standards.
• Performs complex radiation dose assessments, contamination control, and remediation activities in diagnostic and therapeutic areas.
• Determines inpatient or outpatient eligibility for radionuclide therapies, applies release criteria, and counsels patients on radiation precautions after discharge.
• Conducts safety audits, inspections, and performance evaluations of radiation-producing equipment to ensure compliance with state, federal, and accreditation requirements.
• Participates in the testing, calibration, and quality assurance of x-ray and fluoroscopic equipment, analyzing data and recommending corrective actions.
• Provides radiation safety training to physicians, technologists, nurses, and support staff, ensuring completion and documentation of educational requirements.
• Assesses occupational and patient radiation exposures, investigates incidents, and develops strategies to minimize risk and optimize safety practices.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to integrate radiation protection standards into clinical workflows and the healthcare environment of care.
• Assists in maintaining radiation safety documentation, permits, and records required for compliance with applicable regulations.
