Our organization is in search of a Medical Director for its School Based Health Centers.

Reports to the Division Chief of Adolescent Medicine at our Adolescent Health Center.

Primary Objective:

The Adolescent Health Center is dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of young individuals by offering essential services that are comprehensive, integrated, and confidential, all at no cost. We aim to elevate adolescent and young adult health as a national priority, serving as a premier hub for clinical care, specialized training, innovative research, and advocacy.

The Medical Director for the School Based Health Centers will oversee the program's operations and collaborate closely with the Deputy Medical Directors to ensure that medical services align with our mission, strategic goals, and operational framework.

This role involves directing the activities of both medical and mental health personnel, ensuring that services comply with our policies, New York State regulations, funder guidelines, and established best practices in adolescent medicine. Together with the Deputy Medical Directors, the Medical Director will establish, approve, and implement policies governing medical services within the School Based Health Centers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct Patient Care:
  • Oversee outpatient care at the School Based Health Centers and provide inpatient coverage as needed.
  • Step in to cover for school-based health center physicians and mid-level practitioners during absences.
• Administrative Duties:

  Work alongside the Deputy Medical Directors to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the School Based Health Centers, fostering a patient-centered culture where students receive compassionate and integrated care. Support staff in feeling valued and respected, enabling them to perform at their best.

• Supervision, Evaluation, and Collaboration:

  Oversee the development, management, and evaluation of the medical practice at the School Based Health Centers, including:

  • Supervising SBHC physicians and mid-level practitioners.
  • Collaborating with the practice manager and Operations Director, and fulfilling the practice manager's duties if the position is vacant.
  • Conducting annual evaluations of provider performance and semiannual OPPE for clinical staff, along with regular informal assessments and chart reviews.
  • In partnership with the Deputy Medical Directors, adapt existing medical care protocols to align with adolescent health standards.
  • Implement quality assurance measures and monitor the quality of medical services.
  • Advocate for SBHC providers in program development, policy formulation, and staff development, addressing any challenges they face.
  • Establish and oversee systems to track the timeliness and communication of specialty referrals.
  • Collaborate with various teams, including:
  • Social work supervisors to enhance mental health services.
  • Research teams to evaluate and share practice-based outcomes.
  • Fellowship Program Directors for teaching and mentoring faculty, fellows, residents, and staff.
  • NYC Department of Health for program evaluation and management.
  • Health education supervisors to improve health education services.

Qualifications:

• MD degree with Board Certification in Adolescent Medicine.
• Preferred minimum of 5 years of combined clinical and administrative experience.

Compensation:

The salary for this position ranges from $175,000 to $190,000, excluding bonuses or additional compensation. Actual salaries may vary based on factors such as experience, specialties, historical productivity, and community needs. The listed salary range pertains to full-time employment and does not include bonuses or benefits.
