What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in medical design, and why are they important?

To thrive in Medical Design, you need a strong background in biomedical engineering or industrial design, combined with knowledge of anatomy, materials science, and regulatory standards. Familiarity with CAD software, rapid prototyping tools, and medical device regulations such as FDA or ISO standards is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong collaboration skills help professionals innovate while ensuring patient safety and usability. These skills are crucial for developing safe, effective, and user-friendly medical products that meet both clinical needs and compliance requirements.

What is medical design?

Medical design refers to the process of creating and developing medical devices, equipment, and solutions that improve patient care and healthcare outcomes. Professionals in this field use engineering, biology, and design principles to ensure that medical products are safe, effective, and user-friendly. Medical design can involve anything from surgical tools to diagnostic machines and wearable health technologies. The process typically includes research, concept development, prototyping, testing, and regulatory approval. Collaboration with healthcare professionals and understanding patient needs are essential aspects of medical design.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in medical design, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in medical design often encounter challenges such as balancing regulatory compliance with innovative design, ensuring user safety, and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Navigating stringent FDA or CE requirements while maintaining creativity can be demanding, but staying updated on regulations and involving regulatory experts early in the process helps. Close collaboration with clinicians, engineers, and end-users is crucial to create practical and user-friendly solutions. Frequent prototyping and user testing also help address usability issues before product launch.

3 Day Blinds is a national retailer and manufacturer of quality, custom-made blinds, shades, draperies, and shutters. We are proud to be part of the Hunter Douglas family of brands. Over the last 40 years we’ve successfully helped transform our clients' homes and workplaces by offering a wide variety of products that add beauty and comfort to every space. It takes a talented group of individuals to do what we do, and we do it together as One Team. We strive to create a culture of learning and opportunity, and most importantly, an environment where you can feel passionate and connected to your work every day.

At 3 Day Blinds, our Design Consultants don't just sell — they transform spaces. This is a full-time opportunity.

What you'll do

• Meet with clients in their homes to understand their needs and recommend the right custom window treatments for every space
• Create simple, beautiful design solutions tailored to each client's style and budget
• Guide clients through the buying process and confidently close sales in the home
• Manage your own schedule, appointments, and follow-ups
• Build additional business through referrals and local networking

• Flexible to work at least one weekend day, and 4 days during the week
• Reliable transportation and comfortable traveling locally — your territory is your office

Backgrounds that do well here include sales, hospitality, customer service, retail, and other fast-paced client-facing roles. No prior design experience required — we'll train you.

What's in it for you

• Uncapped commission — average earnings $70K–$100K+, with top performers exceeding that
• Company-provided appointments so you're meeting clients from day one, plus the opportunity to grow your income further through self-generated leads
• 3 weeks of paid training to set you up for success before you ever step into a client's home
• Tools provided: tablet, smartphone, and product samples
• Mileage reimbursement
• Full benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, and paid time off
• Real career growth within a national brand — we promote from within
