What is medical coding using AI?

Medical coding using AI refers to the application of artificial intelligence technologies to automate the process of translating healthcare diagnoses, procedures, and services into standardized codes. AI-powered systems use natural language processing and machine learning to analyze clinical documentation and accurately assign the appropriate medical codes. This helps healthcare providers improve efficiency, reduce errors, and ensure proper billing and reimbursement. As AI continues to evolve, it is increasingly being integrated into healthcare revenue cycle management to streamline operations and support compliance.

How does working with AI tools change the daily workflow for medical coders?

Integrating AI tools into medical coding streamlines many routine tasks, such as extracting relevant information from clinical notes and suggesting appropriate codes. This allows medical coders to focus more on complex cases, code validation, and quality assurance. Collaboration with IT specialists and healthcare providers may increase as coders provide feedback on AI system performance and help refine its accuracy. Adapting to new technologies can be a challenge at first, but it often leads to improved productivity, fewer manual errors, and opportunities for professional development in health informatics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a medical coding using AI specialist?

To thrive as a Medical Coding Using AI specialist, you need a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding standards (like ICD-10 and CPT), and healthcare compliance, often supported by a certification such as CPC or CCS. Familiarity with AI-based coding platforms, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and healthcare data analytics tools is typically required. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for interpreting complex records and working with evolving technologies. These skills ensure accurate, efficient coding and compliance with regulations, enabling healthcare organizations to optimize billing and patient care.

With a connected network of providers, care teams, and services across primary and specialty care, surgery centers, imaging, lab, and therapy, you are part of a system designed to deliver high-quality, coordinated care. Together, we create an environment where you can grow, contribute, and help improve the experience and outcomes for every patient we serve.

About the Role:

As a Psychometrist at Quincy Medical Group, you will administer, score, and document standardized psychological, neuropsychological, and developmental assessments under the direct supervision of licensed professionals. Depending on department assignment, you may work with pediatric or adult patients with a wide range of cognitive, developmental, behavioral, and mental health needs.

This role is ideal for someone with a background in psychology who is highly detail-oriented, enjoys working directly with patients, and can balance precise testing protocols with a warm, adaptable approach. Your work will provide valuable objective data and behavioral observations that support accurate evaluations and patient-centered treatment planning.

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Clearly explain testing instructions and adapt communication and rapport-building to each patient's age, developmental level, and individual needs.
  • Accurately score assessments using normative data, clinical software, and standardized scoring guides.
  • Observe and document patient behavior, effort, responses, and other relevant information throughout testing.
  • Prepare and maintain testing environments according to publisher standards to protect the validity and reliability of results.
  • Accurately enter testing and screening results and maintain complete documentation within the medical record.
  • Support patient scheduling, provider calendars, testing appointments, and other administrative workflows related to psychological services.
  • Assist with mental health screenings, triage, and coordination of referrals as needed.
  • Review patient information and documentation for completeness and accuracy, including prior evaluations, medications, and therapy services.
  • Collaborate with licensed professionals and other members of the care team to support efficient, high-quality patient evaluations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a related field required; coursework in statistics or research methods preferred.
  • CPR certification required within six months of employment.
  • Certified Specialist in Psychometry (CSP) preferred and may be obtained after meeting applicable experience requirements.
  • CPI training preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently follow standardized testing and scoring protocols.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish rapport with pediatric or adult patients based on department assignment.
  • Ability to accurately observe, document, and score patient responses and performance.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple testing sessions, schedules, and documentation requirements.
  • Comfort working with patients who may have cognitive, developmental, behavioral, sensory, or mental health needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information appropriately.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits that include healthcare navigation assistance.
  • Access to a mental health benefit at no cost.
  • Employer provided life and disability insurance.
  • $5,250 Tuition Reimbursement per year.
  • Immediate 401(k) match.
  • 40 hours paid volunteer time off.
  • A culture committed to community engagement and social impact.
  • Up to 12 weeks parental leave at 100% pay and a financial benefit for adoption and surrogacy for non-physician team members once eligibility requirements are met.

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $19.59 - $29.39 per hour, with actual pay determined by experience, education, skills, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through bonuses and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
