Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients by performing detailed physical examinations and obtaining comprehensive medical histories to be informed in diagnosing health issues.
  • Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests and lab work to guide clinical decision-making and patient care planning.
  • Utilize delegated prescriptive authority to prescribe medical therapies and recommend interventions aimed at health risk management and behavior modification, always adhering to established protocols and policies to ensure patient safety and efficacy.
  • Develop and implement tailored treatment plans collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to achieve optimal health outcomes for patients.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and their families about managing illnesses, medications, nutritional needs, and lifestyle changes for optimum health.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress to ensure continuity of care and promote effective communication among healthcare providers.
  • Participate in consultation and referral processes when patient needs exceed your scope of practice or require specialty care.
  • Perform specific invasive procedures pertinent to the cardiac specialty, under the supervision of a physician, enhancing patient management within the cardiology scope.
  • Be adaptable to adjusting patient care schedules and duties as necessary, responding to the evolving needs of the department while ensuring patient care quality remains paramount.
Patient Population / Client Focus

This role will largely focus on adult patients experiencing cardiological issues, including but not limited to, arrhythmias, heart failure, coronary artery disease, and preventive cardiology. You will work closely with patients who may have acute or chronic conditions, providing both inpatient and outpatient care, while engaging with families to ensure comprehensive support.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required, with an emphasis on completion from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Must hold an active PA Certification and a valid state license to practice as a Physician Assistant in Virginia.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a practicing Physician Assistant, particularly in a clinical setting, is essential for this role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on active listening, effective communication, and critical thinking abilities.
  • A commitment to ongoing learning, time management, and decision-making skills, ensuring high-quality patient care and team collaboration.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 30 days of employment.
