Status: PRN - As Needed
Shift: Operational hours - Monday - Friday 8:00 - 5:30. Hours vary based on census

Summary:
Provide direct and indirect patient care within any clinical area under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
Provide one-on-one observation of selected patients for the purpose of maintaining patient safety.

1. Previous Experience Required:
The Nursing Assistant will be required to complete a checklist of skills. The unit director/manager or designee will keep this checklist. Only after the required skills have been demonstrated proficiently, will the Nursing Assistant be able to perform these duties independently.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
1. Certification as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Louisiana
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Good mental health to work effectively with patients, families, physicians and other personnel.

Must have good physical health, capable of standing on feet for long periods of time, moving and lifting patients.

Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide direct and indirect patient care at Infusion Therapy Services under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
2. Facilitate evaluation, treatment and final disposition of the patient by assisting the nurse assigned to the direct care of the patient.
3. Responsible for the clerical duties of the department as well as for maintaining patient records and supplies.
4. Assists with admitting new patients or reassessing previously admitted patients as direct and promote optimal flow through the department's unique health care delivery system.
OTHER DUTIES:
1. Direct Patient Care:.
A. Assist with the plan of care for each patient.
B. Assist with the maintenance of quality care.
C. Assist with the collection of specimens and transport in accordance with the universal
Precautions.
D. Set up/Rooming patients for treatments
E. Assist the patient to their assigned room and help with undressing and gowning as needed
E. Vital Signs
F. May provide basic first aid under the supervision of a licensed nurse
G. Stock and maintain supplies in the patient care area
H. Assist with cleaning the patient treatment area and rooms after patients are discharged
I. Responsible for the neatness and cleanliness of the department as whole as well as individual patient rooms and treatment areas
J. Is able to demonstrate competency in age specific criteria as applicable to job scope.
2. CNA Clerical/Secretary Duties:
A. Maintain established levels of inventory
B. Answers the telephone and utilizes the established phone courtesy
C. Answers the nurse call system and utilizes the computer and fax machine correctly
D. Notifies the appropriate departments of physician orders and upholds interdepartmental relations.
E. Organizes and preserves the patient's electronic medical record as applicable to role
3. Patient Data Collection:
A. Facilitates clear communication between the waiting area, assessment area/triage area
and the patient's assigned nurse
