Purpose: Medical Assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the office of Generations Family Medical running smoothly. Medical Assistants perform clinical duties in accordance to state law. Promote CPC (comprehensive

Primary Care Initiative) and use good judgment, critical thinking skills and the ability to identify and resolve problems.

Dimensions: A Medical Assistant/Front Office assistant works in the clinic setting, and is a member of the provider led interdisciplinary team. A Medical Assistant insures all inquiries are promptly, efficiently and courteously handled

Review/update history & immunizations panes, enter chief complaint and vital

Signs in the Electronic Medical Record

Update all medications into Care Tracker for each patient. Additionally, when

Processing a medication refill for a patient not being seen that day, load in other

Medications while chart is out so the electronic medication list can be updated and current

Process refill requests of non-controlled medications at the order of provider and within 48 hours

Link lab/radiology results

Provide Tobacco use cessation counseling

Take and record height, weight, and blood pressure, pulse rate, respiration, temperature, and record in Care Tracker

Follow evidence based practice guidelines for all patients

Use appropriate algorithm for the treatment of Diabetes, Hypertension, Chronic

Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Congestive Heart Failure and provide patient’s educational handouts

Assist provider in completing examination and procedures as instructed

Completely fill out lab slips and other forms, when necessary

Administer medications and injections as ordered and within the guidelines and scope of practice in the State of Oklahoma

Follow universal precautions to protect self and patients

Assist the medical staff in patient education

Stock exam rooms with supplies

Under the direction of the nurse or provider in charge, takes responsibility of medical supplies and cleaning of the medical instruments and equipment

Ability to relate to the public regardless of racial, ethnic, and economic status

Collect and prepare laboratory specimens or perform basic laboratory test on on the premises

Dispose of contaminated supplies, and sterilize medical instruments

Arrange examining room instruments and equipment, order, and maintain supplies and equipment

Keep waiting and examining rooms neat and clean

Work within the guidelines and policies of the practice
