Job description

We are seeking a Medical Assistant For Specialty Physician Practice to become part of our team! You will perform routine administrative and clinical assignments to keep the medical facility running smoothly. ***SALARY IS BASED ON EXPERIENCE

Description:

This individual will work in a small but very busy private practice with one physician, One nurse practitioners and other medical assistants. The individual must be very detailed oriented and self motivated to stay on top of keeping patient flow moving. We are a very meticulous office with regards to process and making sure the patients are seen on time.

Responsible for a variety of patient care functions under the direction of the Physician and Practice Manager. We require at least 2 years of previous experience in a medical office setting, Looking for the right personality and qualities in patient care.

Up to 20-40% of the medical assistant’s work duties will eventually entail assisting the physician with procedures in an office-based procedure room up to four times a week. Duties will require medical assistant to assist patients onto and from procedure table and assist the physician during interventional pain management procedures. This includes moving the position a fluoroscopy (low dose x-ray) machine per direction from the physician. This individual will only be responsible for the positioning of the machine. The physician will be the one operating the actual fluoroscopy (e.g., pressing the button to take the picture). This individual will be required to wear a protective apron during the procedures. Additionally, this individual will be in charge of post-procedure patient care in recovery area.

On non-procedure days, the medical assistant will bring new patients and follow up patients into exam rooms to review patient history, medication, vitals, etc. Must pay attention to process flow and keep things moving while also providing the patients excellent care.

This individual will share duties with multiple medical assistants and it is assumed the duties will be split equally between the medical assistant staff.

This medical assistant role will be cross-trained to provide coverage in other related areas, including but not limited to, providing coverage for receptionist, answering phone, patient intake, collecting copays, scheduling new patient consults, obtaining prior-authorizations. This candidate must have strong front office skills.

Must have computer experience. Our office is 100% electronic medical record-based. No paper charts. This individual must be able to operate efficiently through electronic forms for patient intake process.


Responsibilities:
- Fill out pre-procedure intake forms prior to each procedure
- Document vital signs during office visits/procedures
- Assist Physician in positioning patient for procedure

- Maneuver fluoroscopy (low dose x-ray) machine positioning
- Monitor selected aspects of patient assessments
- Observe patient's general condition
- Review medical history with patient and/or family
- Take pulse, blood pressure, finger sticks, temperature and EKG, if needed
- Review reason for visit and medication information
- Maintain a safe orderly patient area, provide physical safety of patient and safely utilize hazardous material and maintain biomedical waste procedure
- Maintain medical equipment and supplies and the inventory of these items
- Use appropriate medical terminology and abbreviations and document appropriately in medical record
- Maintain patient confidentiality and seek assistance when needed

- Maintain effective interpersonal relationships and assume responsibility and accountability
- Responsible for calling in all prescription refills once approved by physician
- Responsible for printing out daily schedule

- Obtain prior-authorizations for patient procedures, communicate and follow up with insurance carriers

- Perform back up coverage for receptionist (e.g., answer phones, patient intake, collect copays, schedule follow up appointments, etc).

- Responsible for all other tasks as directed by Practice Manager.
Must have the ability to remain calm and focused on patient needs in a stressful environment. Demonstrate sensitivity; utilize universal precautions and the ability to work independently. Team work skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Effective communication skills with patients and staff.
