Department: Learning & Development 

Reports to: Learning, Development & Training Supervisor 


Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant Field Trainer delivers standardized onboarding, clinical skills training, competency assessment, and remedial training for Medical Assistants across CloseKnit care centers. The role partners with Learning & Development and operational leadership to promote consistent clinical and administrative practices, identify training and competency gaps, and help Medical Assistants meet established performance, quality, compliance, and patient-care standards. Regular travel among assigned care centers is essential to the position. 


Training and Oversight Responsibilities: 

  • The Medical Assistant Field Trainer provides functional oversight, coaching, and competency assessment to Medical Assistants during onboarding and training. 
  • Serves as a mentor and resource for new hires, offering guidance and support throughout their training period and beyond. 
  • Oversees the orientation training program for medical assistants. 
  • Conducts and documents Medical Assistant competency assessments and makes recommendations regarding clinical readiness. 


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conducts orientation training sessions for new medical assistants, covering clinical procedures, administrative tasks, and compliance with clinic protocols. 
  • Provides remediation training to address performance gaps identified during onboarding and ongoing evaluations. 
  • Partners with Practice Managers, Medical Assistant Leads, clinical leadership, and Learning & Development to identify training needs, address competency gaps, and ensure consistency in Medical Assistant workflows across care centers. 
  • Supports medical assistants on the clinic floor by demonstrating best practices, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring smooth operations. 
  • Conducts and documents 30-, 60-, and 90-day training evaluations, identifies performance or competency gaps, and communicates findings and recommended follow-up to the appropriate leader and Learning & Development. 
  • Identifies and promptly escalates significant performance, competency, compliance, or patient-safety concerns to the appropriate operational leader and Learning & Development leadership. 
  • Provides coaching and remedial training as assigned; formal performance management and corrective action remain the responsibility of the employee's direct leader in partnership with Human Resources. 
  • Stays updated on company workflows, SOPs, and policies. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 




Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED. 
  • Current Medical Assistant certification/registration from a nationally recognized certifying organization accepted by CloseKnit and applicable state requirements. 
  • 2+ years of medical assistant experience in a primary care, urgent care, or emergency room setting. 
  • 1+ year of experience as a trainer/mentor in a Primary Care/ Immediate/Urgent Care setting. 
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems used in clinical settings; prior experience with Athenahealth (Athena) is strongly preferred. 


Direct experience with the following tasks:

  • Clinical intake, patient data collection  
  • Laboratory specimen collection (blood-draw/venipuncture, urine collection, point-of-care testing, etc.) 
  • Performing EKG testing 
  • Must meet all other state requirements by law, including but not limited to all state requirements and licenses, where applicable. 
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including OSHA and HIPAA requirements. 


Work Environment and Travel Requirements:

  • Flexibility to work various schedules, including occasionally evenings and weekends, to accommodate training schedules. 
  • Regular and frequent travel between CloseKnit care centers is an essential function of the position. The employee must be able to travel to assigned locations based on organizational and training needs. 
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while working in a clinical environment; perform or demonstrate Medical Assistant clinical procedures; use standard clinical equipment; and lift, carry, push, or pull supplies and equipment consistent with the requirements of the Medical Assistant role, with or without reasonable accommodation.
