Clinic Assistant      
JOB OBJECTIVES: (Purpose of the position): 
Assists school nurses with identifying, monitoring, and assisting students with health problems as needed in schools and provide health education for staff and students as requested.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Functions essential to attaining job objectives):
 







  1. Monitor the activity of the school health clinic under the direction of the school administration.
  2. Administer first aid and emergency care to students and school staff following District guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  3. Obtain student health information as provided by parent/guardian in a timely manner.
  4. Maintain a current medical alert list of all students with health conditions, as identified by the parent/guardian.
  5. Communicate necessary medical information/school health concerns in a timely manner to appropriate school personnel, parents/guardians, and the assigned County School Nurse.
  6. Execute health care procedures as designated by the principal after completion of training by a County School Nurse.
  7. Administer medications or assist students who self-administer medications following District guidelines.
  8. Document all student health services in an accurate, appropriate, and timely manner.
  9. Provide a supportive atmosphere for students and staff while assuring appropriate clinic use.

 
OTHER EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Adhere to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia
  2. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.
  3. Knowledge of appropriate techniques to administer basic first aid
  4. Ability to handle confidential information
  5. Must be detailed and task oriented
  6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

 
JOB STANDARDS (Minimum qualifications needed to perform essential job functions):
 

  1. Education and/or Experience:  High School Experience or GED.  Medical or health related experience preferred.
  2. Computer Skills:  General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use email, internet software, student information system used by the District.  Ability to use Word and Excel software for word processing, basic bookkeeping, and data collection.
  3. Interpersonal Skills:  Ability to work well with others from diverse backgrounds.  Ability to solve conflict; maintain confidentiality; listen to others without interrupting; keep emotions under control; remain open to others' ideas, and contribute to building a positive team spirit.
  4. Reasoning Ability:  Ability to use independent judgment and apply common sense to carry out instructions provided in various forms.  Ability to understand and appropriately react to unpredictable situations.  Ability to identify and appropriately address safety and security threats.
  5. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Minimum CNA preferred, CPR, First Aid
  6. Physical Demands:  Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with assistance. Ability to bend, stoop, or crouch

 
SALARY RANGE:  $20,000-$25,000
