What does a media intern do?

A Media Intern typically assists marketing or communications teams with a variety of tasks such as creating and editing content, managing social media accounts, conducting research on media trends, and helping with the coordination of campaigns or events. The role is designed to provide hands-on experience in the media industry, allowing interns to develop skills in digital marketing, public relations, and content production. Media Interns often work closely with professionals to learn about media planning, analytics, and communication strategies, making it a valuable stepping stone for a career in media or communications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a media intern?

To thrive as a Media Intern, you need a basic understanding of media production, digital content creation, and strong written and verbal communication skills, often supported by coursework or experience in media studies or communications. Familiarity with tools like Adobe Creative Suite, social media management platforms, and content management systems is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn make an intern stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for producing engaging content, supporting media campaigns, and adapting to the fast-paced nature of the media industry.

What types of projects do media interns typically work on, and how do these contribute to their professional development?

Media Interns often assist with content creation, social media management, and research for campaigns or media outreach. They may help draft press releases, edit videos, schedule posts, or analyze audience engagement metrics. These hands-on tasks expose interns to industry-standard tools and processes, helping them build a versatile skill set while collaborating closely with marketing, PR, and creative teams. This practical experience can provide valuable insights and networking opportunities, laying a strong foundation for future roles in media and communications.

· Participate in content shoots, product demonstrations, tutorials, trend-based content, and behind-the-scenes storytelling.

· Edit and optimize content for platform-specific best practices.

· Stay current on social media trends, viral formats, creator strategies, and platform updates, bringing fresh ideas to the team.

Collaboration & Learning

· Work closely with the Content Manager and marketing team to execute content initiatives.

· Learn content strategy, audience engagement tactics, and social media best practices through hands-on experience and mentorship.

· Assist with content organization, planning, and content calendar execution.

· Contribute ideas during content brainstorming and planning sessions.

What You'll Gain

· Paid, hands-on experience working with established ecommerce brands.

· Direct mentorship from experienced content and marketing professionals.

· Training on content strategy, video production, community management, analytics, and platform best practices.

· Opportunities to contribute creative ideas and see your work published across brand channels.

· Portfolio-building experience and exposure to real-world marketing initiatives.

· A collaborative environment focused on learning, growth, and professional development.

Requirements:

· Current college student or recent graduate seeking hands-on experience in social media marketing, communications, digital marketing, or a related field.

· Passion for social media, content creation, and digital storytelling.

· Comfortable appearing on camera and creating video content.

· Familiarity with major social platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube.

· Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

· Creative mindset with a willingness to learn and experiment.

· Basic video editing experience is a plus but not required.

· Experience creating personal social media content, school projects, or content for clubs, organizations, or businesses is a plus.
