Medical Director - Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit
About the Role
We are seeking a Board-Certified Psychiatrist to serve as Medical Director for an adult inpatient Behavioral Health Unit. This is a leadership opportunity for a psychiatrist passionate about clinical excellence, quality improvement, and developing high-performing psychiatric programs within a hospital setting.
The position combines clinical responsibilities with operational leadership and offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
Program Overview
  • Adult inpatient Behavioral Health Unit
  • Adult Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
  • Active consult-liaison psychiatry service supporting medical floors and Emergency Department
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Serve as Medical Director for the inpatient behavioral health program
  • Lead quality improvement and performance initiatives
  • Participate in executive and facility-level meetings
  • Support provider recruitment, onboarding, and performance management
  • Assist with behavioral health service line development and expansion
  • Act as an escalation point for clinical and operational concerns
Clinical
  • Serve as attending psychiatrist for the inpatient Behavioral Health Unit and PHP
  • Lead multidisciplinary treatment rounds
  • Complete psychiatric evaluations, discharge planning, and complex consults
  • Provide psychiatry consults for Emergency Department and medical-surgical units
  • Supervise Advanced Practice Providers (APPs)
  • Maintain timely documentation and billing compliance
  • Support resident and medical student education when applicable
Qualifications
  • Board-Certified Psychiatrist
  • Minimum 3 years of psychiatry experience
  • Strong inpatient psychiatry and consult-liaison experience
  • Leadership experience or interest in leadership development
  • Strong communication and team collaboration skills
  • Commitment to quality improvement and patient-centered care
