Job Description: Registered Nurse - Med/Surg-Tele
The Med/Surg-Tele RN provides professional nursing care to assigned patients in an acute care hospital setting, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating individualized patient care while demonstrating sound clinical judgment, effective communication, and professional accountability.
Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg-Tele (MST)
Facility Type: General Acute Care Hospital / Medical Center
Facility / Float Locations: San Diego Hospitals Float - SDMC / Zion / SMMC
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: Per Diem
Needs: 2 RNs
Available Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM; 8-hour; 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM
Availability Requirement: Minimum of 1 shift per week and 1 weekend shift per month
Pay Rates:
Local: $72/hr.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Providing direct nursing care to Med/Surg-Tele patients in accordance with facility policies, procedures, and standards of care
  • Performing ongoing patient assessments, including physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, cognitive, pain, nutrition, and patient/family education needs
  • Monitoring telemetry rhythms, recognizing changes in patient condition, and escalating concerns appropriately
  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized nursing plans of care based on patient needs and outcomes
  • Administering medications, IV therapy, treatments, and interventions as ordered
  • Monitoring patient response to care, medications, and treatments
  • Identifying changes in condition and taking appropriate nursing action using clinical judgment and established protocols
  • Coordinating care with physicians, charge nurses, ancillary staff, case management, and other interdisciplinary team members
  • Delegating tasks appropriately and supporting coordination of care among healthcare team members
  • Educating patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plan, medications, self-care, discharge instructions, and follow-up needs
  • Supporting discharge planning and identifying barriers that may affect safe transition of care
  • Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, patient response, education, and outcomes
  • Demonstrating proficiency with electronic medical record systems and communication tools used for patient care
  • Following infection control, patient safety, privacy, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance standards
  • Upholding facility policies and procedures, professional standards, and applicable state, federal, and local laws
Requirements:
  • Valid CA RN License
  • Current BLS/CPR
  • 2 current supervisor references
  • Med/Surg-Tele skills checklist
  • Up-to-date resume following Kaiser resume guidelines
  • Recent Med/Surg-Tele experience clearly documented on the resume
  • Telemetry monitoring experience clearly documented on the resume
  • Must be local to the San Diego area
  • Must be able to work at all 3 float locations: SDMC, Zion, and SMMC
  • Must be available for at least 1 shift per week and 1 weekend shift per month
