Job description

Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant
Summary: Provides general care to patients in emergency room, in patient and clinic facility settings by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Able to check in, schedule and expedite discharge of patients. Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
Administers prescribed injectable medications and treatments in accordance with approved techniques.
Prepares equipment and aids Physician and Nurses during treatment and examination of patient.
Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient. Performs in a positive and professional manner.
Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient. Able to draw blood perform EKGS and splinting as directed.
Responds and assists to life saving situations based upon medical standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
Documents medical history and medication reconciliation for assigned patients.
Assists in patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy including patient and family instruction.
Rotates among various clinical services of institution such as clinic, emergency and inpatient departments, orthopedics, outpatient and admitting, pediatrics, and psychiatry.
Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgery.
Assists in procedures by handing items to Surgeon, Obstetrician, or other medical practitioner and nurses.
Able to turn over rooms and assist in minor cleaning required for facility.
Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience:
Certified Medical Assistant with one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common medical regulations, reports, journals and documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, and members of the community.
Math Ability:
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
Basic Computer knowledge and EMR navigation experience. Evident and Paycor experience a plus.
Certificates and Licenses:
Arizona State Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program, BLS, Phlebotomy and EKG experience and Certification preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
