BHCOR-Lab I Corbin, KY

Clinical Laboratory Services provides an array of timely and accurate diagnostic testing and other services to Baptist Health Corbin's patients, and to other patients and organizations in support of the facilities mission, vision and strategic priorities.

The Medical Technologist prepares, performs, and records testing procedures in accordance with established criteria for various sections of the Clinical Laboratory. The role involves performing routine test procedures, assisting in the training of new staff and students, supporting instrument maintenance, and ensuring proper inventory management. The MLT processes quality control data, communicates test results and lab alert values to physicians, nurses, and clients, and collects specimens. Additionally, the MLT participates in continuing education and proficiency surveys, reports any instrument or procedural failures, and ensures accurate sample.

Job Description:

Medical Technologist-Full-Time

Performs accurate laboratory testing on blood and body fluids, including waived, moderate, and high-complexity procedures.

Follows proper protocols for specimen collection, handling, processing, analysis, and reporting.

Ensurestimely, accurate communication of results and critical values to clinical staff.

Identifies and resolves issues affecting test performance or notifies appropriate personnel.

Performs and documents required quality control, calibrations, and maintenance.

Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to safety, infection-control, and PPE requirements.

Maintains a safe, clean work environment and follows all regulatory and organizational policies.

Ensures proper operation of laboratory equipment through calibration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.

Monitors inventory, maintains adequate supplies, and notifies supervisors of needs or issues.

Participates in quality programs, proficiency testing, and corrective action processes.

Assists in training new staff and students; completes mandatory competencies and continuing education.

Collaborates with other departments to support patient care and performance improvement.

Attends required meetings and follows hospital and departmental procedures.

Demonstrates knowledge of safety protocols, emergency procedures, and Life Safety Program expectations.

Requirements:

Two years of college with courses pertaining to biology, chemistry in conjunction with completed training in an accredited program of Medical Technology or related science; qualified to take certification test from ASCP, AMT or equivalent within 1 year.
