Job description

Job Title: Assembly Engineer, Mechanical Design

Location: Cullman, AL LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY - NO RELOCATION ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE

Job Summary:

The Assembly Engineer, Mechanical Design is a design-forward engineering role supporting equipment development, installation, and production launches within a manufacturing environment. This position is ideal for a mechanically strong engineer who enjoys owning equipment and tooling designs while also gaining hands-on exposure during installation, commissioning, and line trials.

The role supports both U.S.- and Japan-built equipment and works closely with manufacturing, quality, project teams, and external vendors. While the primary focus is mechanical design, the engineer will intentionally develop on-floor experience to ensure designs translate effectively to real-world production. This is a high-impact role for an engineer who wants visibility, ownership, and long-term growth across both design and manufacturing execution.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must-have qualifications required for consideration

● Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline

● Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and mechanical design

● Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and related engineering/design software

● Experience designing manufacturing equipment, tooling, or mechanical systems

● Ability to apply design concepts to real-world manufacturing environments

● Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

● Effective verbal and written communication skills

● Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

Nice-to-have qualifications that increase competitiveness

● Automotive tooling or manufacturing equipment design experience

● Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, or line trials

● Knowledge of Kaizen, Gorika, cycle time analysis, ROI studies, and time charts

● Familiarity with simulation tools and layout optimization

● Experience collaborating with global engineering teams (Japan experience a plus)

● Understanding of assembly processes and production launch activities

● Basic project management experience (schedules, workflow coordination, vendors)

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Key responsibilities listed in order of importance

● Design, modify, and improve mechanical equipment, tooling, and layouts using CAD tools

● Support installation, commissioning, and validation of assembly equipment

● Participate in line trials and launch activities to verify design intent and process capability

● Develop hands-on equipment knowledge to apply lessons learned to future designs

● Troubleshoot mechanical and process issues during trials and early production

● Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and external vendors

● Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time, cost, and ROI

● Communicate effectively with U.S.- and Japan-based engineering teams

Physical and Environmental Requirements

Physical expectations and working conditions associated with the job may include standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods; working on the production floor; and lifting up to approximately 35 lbs. Work may be performed in manufacturing, laboratory, and office environments. Occasional overtime, weekend work, and after-hours support may be required during launches.

● Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package

● Medical, dental, vision, and retirement plan options

● Opportunities for professional development and technical growth

● Hands-on, collaborative engineering culture with high visibility
