What will you be doing!

• Leading the design of mechanical components, systems, tooling, and equipment as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Developing design requirements and defining critical characteristics using engineering judgment, industry standards, codes, and expert input.
• Performing engineering analyses, calculations, tolerance stack-ups, and fit and clearance assessments to support design decisions.
• Reviewing, preparing, and taking engineering responsibility for drawings and technical documentation.
• Leading and participating in team meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions.
• Generating innovative design solutions in collaboration with subject matter experts.
• Preparing complex, multi-disciplinary design packages and supporting engineering documentation.
• Developing test plans, test reports, and test records to demonstrate compliance with design requirements.
• Guiding Mechanical Laboratory Technicians and engineering staff during testing activities.
• Supporting the development of component prototypes and testing mock-ups.
• Planning and coordinating small- to medium-sized engineering projects and reporting on project progress.
• Assisting with the preparation of commercial proposals and technical submissions.
• Presenting technical information to customers, stakeholders, and project teams.
• Contributing to technical reports, publications, and journals, as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

• Education
  • Bachelor's (Honours) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing OR membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
  • Registered in the PEO Engineering Internship Training program is desired and considered an asset.
• Experience
  • Up to 2 years of experience or less.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • General computer literacy in word processing and a high degree of expertise with spreadsheet software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated punctuality.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic.
  • Good record-keeping and organization skills.
  • Knowledge of basic machine design practices, strength of materials and basic manufacturing techniques.
  • Strong mechanical design aptitude.
  • Knowledge of technologies outside of traditional mechanical design and experience in robotics, automation, and remote tooling would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of analytical modelling in solid mechanics.
  • Knowledge and practical application of GD&T.
  • Knowledge and awareness of radiation protection, environmental, QA and security compliance programs is an asset.
  • Knowledge of materials science is desired
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:

• Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
• This position is part of the CRPEG union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in their Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you'll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.

Location: Fully Onsite

This role is a fully onsite role that requires the employee to primarily work at CNL's Chalk River Laboratory site, with only occasional opportunities to work remotely, if desired by the employee. Located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, our Chalk River site offers a beautiful natural setting with forests, lakes, and wildlife, right at your doorstep.
