This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will work on the Aft & Distributed Systems design team supporting the 4-Engine second stage of the 9x4 New Glenn vehicle. In this role you will be responsible for designing, planning, and executing structural tests, as well as contributing to the design of flight hardware for next-generation rockets! You will engage in various aspects of the design cycle including conceptual design, structural layout and analysis, drawing release, integration, test, and troubleshooting. You will use creative thinking and novel manufacturing solutions to solve complex problems highly stressed hardware.
This role serves as an interface on critical system testing where you will support the initial build and upgrades to the aft primary metallic structure of GS2-4E, including qualification testing. As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team, you will be responsible for design of ground support equipment, architecture of process, test requirement definition, troubleshooting hardware failures quickly, risk identification/mitigation, test readiness coordination, test execution, data review and analysis, as well as supporting various continuous process improvements.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Develop concepts and preliminary designs for test
  • Develop and maintain test documentation
  • Coordinate test readiness and execution, including test fixturing design, requirements validation, work order management, materials procurement, test setup and configuration, instrumentation, and manufacturing coordination
  • Operate as load control console operator during live test execution
  • Create and own the development and qualification test activities for your hardware
  • Work with 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs (ANSYS Preferred)
  • Deliver completed designs using best draft practicing per ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards along with clear and well documented analysis reports
  • Work independently to determine and develop approaches to solutions
  • Enforce safety standards throughout all test operations

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent
  • 3+ years of professional engineering experience with complex structural systems
  • Direct experience executing production or qualification tests with emphasis on mechanical, structural, or fluid systems
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E)
  • Good project management skills, including supplier management, scheduling, and production interfacing
  • Ability to utilize test instrumentation and control components: pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, flow meters, load cells, relays, solenoid valves, etc.
  • Ability to work in a flexible and dynamic team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Winplot, or other control, data acquisition, and reduction software
  • Working knowledge of material properties and treatments
  • Direct structural test experience on space vehicles, aircraft, or large structures
  • Experience diagnosing and fixing structures, mechanical, and/or fluids hardware
  • Experience in a rapid and scrappy hardware development environment
  • Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes and quality control relative to sheet metal, machined components, and welded hardware
  • Experience with design for reliability, low-cost manufacturability, assemble-ability, operability
  • Experience performing stress analysis, especially FEM (ANSYS preferred)
  • Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, tubing, pressurized hardware, flex elements, seals, and fittings

Base Pay Range for:
CO applicants is $90,934.00 - $127,307.25WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35
