Market Equipment (MEQU) is the only company in the Inland Northwest that provides end-to-end refrigeration solutions, specializing in the installation, service, and repair of industrial and commercial refrigeration systems. With over 50 years in business, MEQU supports some of the most prominent supermarket and grocery chains across Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and Montana. MEQU, is seeking a Commercial Refrigeration Installation Technician to support commercial refrigeration construction projects in and around the Provo, UT area.
Role Summary
The Commercial Refrigeration Installation Technician is responsible for the installation, replacement, and startup of commercial refrigeration systems in grocery stores, cold storage facilities, food service operations, retail environments, and industrial facilities. This role supports new construction, remodels, store conversions, and major refrigeration equipment upgrades, ensuring installations are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and manufacturer requirements.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Install commercial refrigeration equipment including parallel rack systems, condensing units, evaporators, walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-in cases, display cases, and related refrigeration components
• Assist with rigging, setting, leveling, and securing refrigeration equipment using proper lifting methods and tools
• Install refrigeration piping systems, including suction, liquid, discharge, and drain lines
• Braze, pressure test, evacuate, and prepare refrigeration systems for charging and startup
• Assist with refrigerant charging, leak detection, and system commissioning activities in accordance with EPA guidelines
• Read and interpret refrigeration piping diagrams, blueprints, mechanical drawings, and installation plans
• Install controls, sensors, valves, case connections, and related refrigeration components as required
• Perform equipment replacements, retrofits, remodels, and refrigeration system upgrades in active commercial facilities
• Coordinate daily work activities with project managers, foremen, subcontractors, and other trades on site
• Ensure installations meet manufacturer specifications, refrigeration industry standards, and company quality requirements
• Identify material needs and communicate shortages, conflicts, or project delays to leadership
• Maintain productivity while meeting project schedules and quality expectations • Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites
• Properly use, care for, and maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles
• Participate in jobsite safety meetings and follow all company safety policies and procedures
• Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner to protect employees, customers, subcontractors, and the public
Skills and Qualifications
• Working knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems and installation practices
• Experience installing refrigeration racks, piping systems, condensing units, evaporators, and refrigerated display cases
• Knowledge of refrigeration cycle principles and refrigerant handling best practices
• Ability to read and interpret refrigeration blueprints, piping diagrams, and construction drawings
• Proficiency with copper pipe installation, brazing, pressure testing, and evacuation procedures
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in active construction environments
• Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills
• Ability to identify and resolve installation issues in fast-paced project environments
Preferred Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED
• 2+ years of commercial refrigeration installation experience
• EPA Section 608 Certification
• Trade school, apprenticeship, or technical training in refrigeration or HVACR
• Experience working in grocery, food retail, cold storage, food processing, or industrial refrigeration environments
• Familiarity with CO₂, glycol, ammonia, or other advanced refrigeration systems preferred
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
Working Conditions
• Work performed at active commercial construction sites, grocery stores, cold storage facilities, and industrial locations, both indoors and outdoors
• Overtime, after-hours, overnight, and travel work may be required to meet project schedules
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 75-100 pounds with assistance as needed
• Dexterity to operate hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and refrigeration installation tools
• Ability to work in varying temperature conditions, including refrigerated and freezer environments
• Ability to communicate effectively through speaking and hearing
