Join the Pacific Rail Services Team as a Rail Terminal Chassis Mechanic!
Location: CSX Railyard โ€“ Syracuse, NY
Starting Pay: $30/hour (Daylight Shift)ย

Be Part of Keeping America Moving:
At Pacific Rail Services, your hands-on expertise keeps intermodal freight flowing safely and efficiently across the country. As a Chassis Mechanic, you'll play a vital role in maintaining the equipment that powers logistics and supply chainsโ€”every repair you complete helps deliver goods on time and keeps our operations running smoothly. If you love solving mechanical challenges, working with your hands, and seeing the direct results of your efforts, this is your opportunity to join a stable, recession-resistant industry with a supportive union-backed team.

What You'll Do:
  • Perform thorough inspections and routine maintenance on intermodal chassis, trailers, and containers.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, air brake, and hydraulic systems.
  • Replace suspension components, landing legs, and other critical parts.
  • Conduct air brake inspections and repairs to meet safety standards.
  • Handle welding, patching, and minor fabrication on containers as needed.
  • Change tires and address other on-the-spot repairs.
  • Accurately document all work for compliance and quality records.
  • Follow OSHA, FMCSA, and company safety protocols every day.
  • Pitch in with other shop tasks to keep the team moving forward.
Who We're Looking For:

  • At least 1 year of chassis, trailer, or intermodal maintenance experience (required).
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Able to stand, lift, and move throughout long shifts.
  • A motivated team player who takes pride in quality work.
  • Meets FMCSA mechanical experience requirements.
  • Welding experience and/or hostler (yard jockey) skills are a big plus!ย
  • Familiarity with shop tools and equipment.
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, and safety-focused.
  • Basic personal tools and reliable transportation to the yard.
If Selected, You'll Need To:
  • Pass a Physical Capabilities Test and drug screening.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Live within 45 minutes of Syracuse, NY (no relocation offered).
What You Can Expect in Return:

  • Outstanding Union Benefits through Teamsters: Free medical (after 60 days), dental, and vision coverage.
  • Free life insurance.
  • Paid holidays, personal days, and vacation time.
  • Boot reimbursement to keep you equipped.
  • 401(k) with annual company contributions.
  • A direct-hire role with Pacific Rail Services (not the railroad) in a stable field.

This daylight shift position offers a predictable schedule, the chance to build your skills in a specialized trade, and the satisfaction of contributing to essential national infrastructure every day.
