 Position Summary

 Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Mechanic will conduct industrial equipment troubleshooting, repairs and preventive maintenance service by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment. This role is responsible for on-shift equipment, facility maintenance, repair, on-the-spot troubleshooting support, will work to improve equipment efficiency and throughput by supporting improvement projects and performing preventative maintenance.   

The ideal candidate will perform periodic inspections, preventative maintenance, testing, and adjustments necessary to maintain the processing systems in peak operating condition. Perform all these duties while adhering to the safety principles and procedures required by ofi. 

Position Responsibilities

  • Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
  • Troubleshoots machinery for scheduled production runs.
  • Performs mechanic skills including, but not limited to: mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and basic electrical troubleshooting and repair of packaging and production machines.
  • Performs equipment modifications on existing equipment, fabrication, and installation of new equipment.
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Maintenance of conveyors, pumps, fans, and other process equipment.
  • Oxy-Acetylene and electric arc welding and cutting of carbon steel.
  • Comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules. Comply with GMPs and Food Safety rules.
  • Follows company policies and procedures.
  • This position is not limited to those duties in the job description. Duties and responsibilities can be changed, expanded, reduced, or deleted to meet the business needs of the organization.

Position Requirements

  • Prior experience in welding and fabrication preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to utilize hand and power tools
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs. consistently throughout a shift.
  • Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and department Leads.
  • Ability to work all shifts and be available to work overtime as needed.
  • Understand and follow all Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety rules; comply with OSHA Safety and health regulations.
  • Follows and complies with all Company policies and procedures
  • Ability to work in a dusty, fast paced, and noisy production environment with minimal supervision.
  • Able to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Ability to take direction from the department leads and work in a team driven atmosphere.
  • Ability to wear and use all assigned personal protective equipment (hard hat, gloves, eye protection, ear plugs, steel toe footwear/nonslip, and welding/cutting protection etc.).
