Looking for a career where no two days are the same?

As a Diesel Mechanic at Bailey Nurseries, you'll work on one of the most diverse equipment fleets in the industry—from tractors and forklifts to custom-built potting machines, conveyors, irrigation systems, and specialty nursery equipment.

Whether you're launching your career or bringing previous experience, you'll join a team that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. You'll diagnose, repair, maintain, and improve equipment while gaining hands-on experience and working alongside an experienced team.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Work on something different every day. Work on tractors, forklifts, irrigation systems, conveyors, and one-of-a-kind nursery equipment you won't find in a typical repair shop.
  • Build your skills. Learn from experienced mechanics while gaining hands-on experience with diesel, hydraulics, electrical systems, fabrication, and specialized equipment.
  • Make your mark. Your ideas and problem-solving skills are valued. Help improve equipment, keep production moving, and contribute to a team that supports one of North America's leading wholesale nurseries.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

As a Diesel Mechanic, you'll help keep our equipment operating safely, reliably, and efficiently by:

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair tractors, forklifts, trailers, irrigation systems, conveyors, and custom-built production equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, routine servicing, and inspections to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related systems.
  • Inspect, repair, and replace tires on a variety of equipment.
  • Maintain accurate service records, communicate repair progress, and work with team members to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while properly caring for company tools, equipment, and parts.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving mechanical problems, takes pride in quality work, and is eager to learn.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience gained through technical school, previous employment, internships, military service, or personal projects.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and contribute as part of a collaborative team.
  • Commitment to working safely and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
  • Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • Basic mechanic's tool set appropriate for the position.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or occasional off-hours during seasonal production or emergency repairs.

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience is a plus, but not required:

  • Technical degree or certificate in Diesel Technology, Agricultural Equipment Technology, Heavy Equipment, Automotive Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with agricultural, heavy, diesel, automotive, or industrial equipment, including hydraulic or electrical systems.
  • Experience operating tractors, forklifts, loaders, or other agricultural or industrial equipment.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Safely use required PPE and follow all company safety procedures.

Ready to Grow With Us?

At Bailey Nurseries, you'll have the opportunity to work on unique equipment, solve new challenges, build your skills, and grow with an experienced team.

Don't meet every qualification? We still encourage you to apply. If you're mechanically inclined, motivated to learn, and excited to build a rewarding career, we'd love to hear from you.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
