Job description

The Airplane Mechanic role is located at Eagle Flight School at the Porter County Regional Airport in Valparaiso, Indiana. This role is responsible for ensuring that our school’s aircraft are maintained and repaired to the highest standards of safety and performance. The ideal candidate must possess technical expertise and meticulous attention to detail. Daily responsibilities focus on diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing aircraft components and systems.

Principal Accountabilities

· Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance checks on aircraft including engine overhauls, sheet metal repair, and landing gear, hydraulic, and electrical system repairs.

· Diagnoses mechanical and electrical problems in aircraft systems and determines maintenance/repair solutions.

· Conducts repairs and replaces defective parts

· Ensures compliance with all FAA regulations and safety standards

· Tests engine operation and system functionality using diagnostic tools like ignition analyzers and compression checkers. Inspects completed work to verify that maintenance meets standards and regulations

· Maintains detailed records of all maintenance and repair work

· Performs scheduled maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, and engine cleanings

· Installs and tests new equipment on aircraft

· Collaborates with team members to ensure clear communications regarding aircraft maintenance updates and progress

· Conducts pre-flight and post-flight inspections

· Uses diagnostic equipment to assess aircraft health and performance

· Responds to aircraft mechanical issues during flight emergencies

· Keeps current with industry advancements and technical updates

Qualifications

· Valid A&P Technician Certification and high school diploma or equivalent

· Completion of an FAA-approved aviation maintenance technician school

· 3+ years’ experience working with aircraft maintenance and repair

· Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and deep experience with aviation diagnostic tools and equipment

· Familiarity with FAA regulations and safety standards

· Advanced certifications in specific aircraft models or systems

· Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail

· Ability to work under pressure and in time-sensitive situations

· Good communication and teamwork skills

· Expectation to continue education and training in aviation technology

· Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics

· Ability to pass a background check and drug screening

· Physical fitness to perform the duties required

· Basic computer skills for record-keeping and diagnostics

· Ability to work varied hours, including nights and weekends
