Job description

Overview

The Director of Meat owns and sets the multi-year strategy and financial performance for the assigned categories, aligning category vision, investment priorities, and execution to Sprouts’ enterprise strategy and customer value proposition. This role leads and develops a high-performing merchandising organization, serving as the enterprise subject matter expert, and decision-maker for category strategy, assortment, pricing frameworks, and supplier partnerships. Reporting to the VP, Meat & Seafood, the Director drives cross-functional alignment, full Meat P&L accountability, and measurable growth in sales, margin, and customer engagement across the portfolio. The Director will also coordinate insourcing tasks and visiting DC, Plants, & Ranch’s to validate quality, specifications, and animal welfare standards meet or exceed defined expectations.


Overview of Responsibilities
  • Owns and sets the Short-Term Meat Strategy (1-3 year) aligned to Sprouts’ enterprise strategy and customer value proposition.
  • Accountable for category decisions within Meat, including assortment strategy, pricing frameworks, vendor selection, and margin targets; escalates only material risks or enterprise trade-offs to the VP, Meat & Seafood.
  • Oversee Chicken, Beef, Ground Beef, Turkey, Pork, Lamb, Bison, Ham, Processed Meat, Frozen Meat and Meat Meal Solution merchandising team while establishing priorities and assisting the team in the achievement of department goals.
  • Build a high-performing bench through coaching, succession planning, and talent development.
  • Evolve and improve the merchandising strategy based on analytics, customer, and market insights with strong cross functional partnerships.
  • Lead Category Mangers on supplier relationships and negotiations, including cost, assortment, and specifications.
  • Hold vendor partners accountable to defined specifications and collaborate with internal and external partners to drive improvement where needed.
  • Lead cross-functional alignment across Supply Chain, Pricing, Marketing, Operations, and Finance to drive enterprise-wide category execution and results.
  • Serves as the enterprise subject matter expert for Meat, influencing company standards, processes, and policies.
  • Owns full P&L performance for Meat, including revenue growth, margin expansion, cost management, and shrink optimization workstream.\
  • Provide directions on new store layout and space allocation.
  • Accountable for category decisions within Meat, including assortment strategy, pricing frameworks, vendor selection, and margin targets; escalates only material risks or enterprise trade-offs to the VP.
  • Provide coverage for VP, Meat & Seafood when they are not available for meetings or impromptu needs.
  • Additional reporting as needed.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Meat products, categories, programs, origins, and trends.
  • Bachelors degree; MBA or advance degree preferred
  • 10-12+ years of increasing experience in management of a department and/or Category Management
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Requires long-term strategic and financial planning skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including CoPilot.
  • Solid understanding of P&L, margins, and retail merchandising principles.
