JOB TITLE: Apprentice Meat Cutter

ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT:  FireLake Grocery 

SUPERVISOR:   Meat Market Manager

FLSA: Non-exempt

SALARY: $14.00-$16.00 per hour


ALL FULL TIME POSITIONS: In addition to your pay, your salary also includes Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance. The Biweekly deduction from employee paycheck is $40.00 for Employee Only, $95.00 Employee plus Children, $120.00 Employee plus Spouse, and $140.00 Employee plus family.  


JOB SUMMARY: 

The Apprentice Meat Cutter assists the Meat Market Manager and Meat Cutters in preparing, cutting, and packaging meat and poultry products for retail sale. This position is designed to provide hands-on training and experience in all aspects of meat cutting, including product knowledge, safety, sanitation, and customer service. The Apprentice Meat Cutter learns proper cutting techniques, portion control, merchandising, and quality standards while maintaining a clean and organized work area to ensure a positive shopping experience for customers.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Assist in cutting, trimming, and preparing meat products under supervision.

Learn and practice proper knife handling, equipment use, and safety procedures.

Wrap, weigh, label, and display meat products according to department standards.

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of meat cutting areas, tools, and equipment.

Rotate stock, check dates, and ensure product freshness and quality.

Provide friendly and helpful customer service when assisting shoppers.

Follow all food safety, temperature control, and workplace safety policies.

Participate in ongoing training to develop skills toward becoming a qualified Meat Cutter.

Assist in unloading, organizing, and storing meat deliveries.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Meat Market Manager.


QUALIFICATIONS: 

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Strong work ethic and willingness to learn meat cutting skills.

Ability to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced environment.

Basic math and communication skills.

Ability to lift up to 60-80 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Must adhere to all Citizen Potawatomi Nation and FireLake Grocery policies.


WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Exposure to cold temperatures in refrigerated work areas.

Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motion.

Use of sharp tools and machinery in a controlled, supervised environment.
