Job description

The Programmer will manage and maintain computer systems, servers, and ensure cyber security processes are updated. Review and evaluate AI tools for administrative functions.

This is a non-exempt, in-person position located primarily on the Columbia, TN Campus.

Essential Functions

  • Systems -System management of servers running Linux and Windows; numerous layered products Argos reporting and Evisions.
    1. Maintain server software, including servers in virtual environments (Nutanix)
    2. Service and system monitoring
    3. Communicate with third-party vendors to maintain hardware and software
    4. Maintain backup applications, backup integrity, and verify backups are restore ready.
    5. System and application management of Windows and Linux systems for Columbia State Web server and Cascade, Student web portal server, and IT-specific applications (Ansible, Foreman, IP Hostmon, Greenbone/OpenVAS).
    6. Process automation and maintenance via Ansible and Foreman.
    7. Requirements gathering, design, test, and implement systems
    8. Liaison between technical teams and user departments 
  • Cyber Security - System security and assurance
    1. Perform regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing on systems, networks, and applications.
    2. Assist with monitoring and updating end point security tools
    3. Review applications to evaluate and ensure positive security posture
    4. Investigate suspicious activities, security alerts, and potential breaches.
    5. Recommend security policies, procedures, and best practices to protect sensitive information and infrastructure.
  • Artificial Intelligence - Provide support for evaluations of AI-related tools and applications as pertains to administrative functions.

Supplemental Functions

  • Support development, oversight of programs and services that result in enrollment, progression, retention and graduation growth for the service area.
  • Serve on college committees.
  • Participants in other college activities as assigned by the Director of Admin Computing, DBA.
  • Help create specifications and evaluation bids.
  • Ensure audit guidelines are followed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Information Systems or related field and 4 years of experience in a technical support role.

OR

  • Masters Degree in Computer Information Systems or related field and 1 year of experience in a technical support role.

Preferred/Desired:

  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating
  • Programming language experience in Python, HTML or similar language
  • Experience in scripting languages – for example PowerShell, Java Script, Bash
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner, Slate
  • Working knowledge of ChaGPT, MS Copilot, other LLM’s
  • Knowledge of cyber security tools and XDR/MDR applications
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with faculty, staff, and students across the institution.
 

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to occasionally work off-hours or weekends
  • Must be able to travel to other campus locations

Hiring Salary Range (Annual): $63,280 - $75,940
