How you make a difference
The Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric care to incarcerated patients while supporting mental health and healthcare staff through clinical consultation. This role delivers direct psychiatric services in alignment with professional standards and organizational guidelines. The position collaborates closely with facility leadership and interdisciplinary teams to ensure consistent and effective psychiatric care. The Psychiatrist supports continuity of care through treatment planning, follow-up, and coordination with mental health services.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide psychiatric evaluations, treatment, and follow-up care while exercising independent medical judgment.
  • Monitor psychotropic medications for effectiveness and side effects and adjust treatment as clinically indicated.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary leadership and care teams to ensure uniform psychiatric and mental health services.
  • Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation and participate in required meetings, consultations, and on-call services.
  • Support referrals, transfers, crisis intervention, and clinical collaboration with mental health and medical staff.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from accredited university with specialty training in psychiatry.

Experience

  • Experience providing psychiatric services to an adult population.
  • Experience in providing psychiatric services to an adolescent population preferred for youth facility clinical assignments.
  • Corrections experience preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of practice.
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in psychiatry.
  • Current DEA registration (unless CPO determines it as optional)
  • Current BLS certification
