Job description

Overview

The TRAVEL Registered Nurse Lead is an extension of the Clinical Services management and leadership team with responsibilities to include, but not limited to, managing all aspects of the infusion suite per travel assignment and assist with the onboarding, orientation and precepting of new hires. Provides leadership and support to infusion suite staff who provide professional clinical care to patients and adhere to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Performs direct care responsibilities consistent with RN Senior for the role as assigned.

Job Summary

  • Full-time / 40 hours a week.
  • Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend travel.
  • Provides coverage at private infusion sites, including confirming appointments, initiating IV access, mixing and administering medications, charting and supporting overall patient infusion therapy.
  • Assists the Clinical Operations Manager in site management.
  • Assists in start-up and wind-down activities.
  • Assists with the review and revision of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Assists in completing site audits.
  • Must be willing to travel 100%.
  • Must live within 60 miles of a major US Airport.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental and age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the Intrafusion by McKesson Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics, Standard Operating Procedures, and Business Standards.

Assists the Clinical Operations Manager in site management

  • Provides coverage for sites nationally by traveling overnight and by air.
  • Follows company procedures for booking travel and lodging.
  • Completes expense reports timely and accurately.
  • Assists in providing staff training
  • Assists with the review and revision of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Assists in completing site audits.
  • Assists in start-up and wind-down activities.

Plans, implements, coordinates, evaluates and promotes the continuity of care consistent with established standards of practice.

  • Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding current symptoms and medical history.
  • Collects and records focused nursing assessment and interventions accurately and timely in the EMR.
  • Recognizes changes in patient condition and intervenes appropriately.
  • Reviews and reports the results of the health status assessment and physical examination, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data and psychosocial assessment of assigned patients to the provider.
  • Submits all required documentation to obtain authorizations for therapies.
  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material.
  • Provides psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.

Prepares and administers therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.

  • Administers all medications according to the physician's order, prescribing information and protocol.
  • Assures pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies where applicable.
  • Facilitates drug administration by assessing patient, pertinent labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and, problems and symptom management.
  • Obtains Peripheral IV and/or CVAD access/de-access per protocol.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided.
  • Utilizes knowledge and resources regarding reimbursement procedures.

Maintains neat and orderly infusion suite

  • Orders and restocks office and medical supplies as needed.
  • Follows OSHA guidelines when handling biohazardous waste and any other material
  • potentially infected with a blood borne pathogen.
  • Maintains all disinfection protocols.
  • Maintains equipment according to quality control standards.

Facilitates clinical operations and patient care.

  • Facilitates and schedules patient appointments.
  • Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.
  • As necessary, facilitates communication between patient/family and provider.
  • Appropriately orders specialty and free drug.
  • Maintains clinic schedule and ensures adequate staffing
  • Remains up to date on all emails and department communications.
  • Escalates site concerns and issues to Clinical Operations Manager.

Inter-professional collaboration.

  • Acts as a resource to LPN/LVNs, medical assistants and administrative assistants.
  • Acts as preceptor to newly hired nurses actively participating in the preceptor professional development courses.
  • Acts as a field resource to Clinical Services Leadership

Participates in professional development activities and maintains current knowledge of infusion nursing.

  • Completes all required education assignments.
  • Participates in clinical department and preceptor meetings as needed.

Qualifications

Experience

Minimum of 5 years nursing experience, including at least one year in infusion therapy preferred.

One year of supervisory or nursing leadership experience is preferred.

Education/Training

Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.

RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or American Red Cross healthcare provider hands on course)

Must maintain continuing education requirements.
