What does an MCHC (Maternal and Child Health Coordinator) do?

MCHC typically stands for Maternal and Child Health Coordinators or Consultants. These professionals work in public health to improve the health outcomes of mothers, infants, and children. They coordinate programs, provide education, analyze data, and collaborate with healthcare providers and community organizations. Their focus is on promoting healthy pregnancies, preventing disease, and ensuring access to appropriate care for families. MCHC professionals play a crucial role in advocating for policies and services that support maternal and child health.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an MCHC (Maternal and Child Health Coordinator), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Maternal and Child Health Coordinator, you need a background in public health, nursing, or social work, often supported by a relevant degree and experience in maternal and child health programs. Familiarity with health data systems, program management tools, and certifications such as Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) is valuable. Outstanding communication, cultural competence, and organizational skills help build trust with families and coordinate care across services. These skills are critical for improving health outcomes and ensuring effective support for mothers and children in diverse communities.

Job description

Part-time General Dentist

Mendocino Community Health Center, Inc. (MCHC) is currently seeking a part-time General Dentist (DDS/DMD) to join our care team at Little Lake. MCHC provides comprehensive services for the communities of Mendocino and Lake Counties. In addition to dental care, we provide primary care, behavioral health, women's services, and specialty care services. There is a strong team support and a multidisciplinary care team approach to care. The mission of MCHC Health Centers is to provide compassionate, high-quality healthcare for everyone in our communities. We ensure that there are no closed doors for those seeking dental or primary health care at MCHC in Lake and Mendocino Counties. Our dental team consists of dentists, RDH, RDA-EFT2s, RDAs, and DAs. Dental is central to the care we provide our patients. This is a part-time position, two days a week, Monday and Friday from 8:30-5:30. This dentist will see a wide range of ages, including pediatric patients. If you have not yet traveled to this part of California, it is the peacefulness of redwood tree groves and the short drive to the awe-inspiring Pacific Ocean that will draw you!

Benefits:

  • Competitive wages: $88.46–$92.69 / hour
  • Retention bonus of up to $4,000
  • Paid malpractice insurance

Highlights of being a dentist at MCHC:

  • Highly collaborative and team-oriented environment. You will have support.
  • The team has a clear connection to the mission of MCHC.
  • Location! Mendocino and Lake County are incredible places to live. You can live on a lake, in a picturesque valley, or in the mountains and still be 5-10 minutes away from the practice and a short drive to major cities.

Our clinics are located in rural (but not isolated) Northern California, two hours north of San Francisco, two hours north-west of Sacramento, and one hour from the Pacific Ocean. This friendly community is rich in the arts and produces some of the best wines in Northern California. An area with plenty for outdoor enthusiasts and foodies alike. We offer an unparalleled sense of community, in a family-friendly environment, filled with opportunities for education, exercise, and creative outlet. In addition, with a short, stress-free commute, you'll have more time to spend with your family and friends or to explore the million acres of national forest, numerous lakes, picturesque vineyards, and breathtaking coastline that our area has to offer. You may choose to enjoy cultural activities including the symphony, community theater, dance and yoga studios, or galleries that display the amazing work of local artists. If making a difference is important to you, you'll gain a strong sense of satisfaction when you practice at our health centers. Your expertise and compassion will be very much appreciated by your patients, and your colleagues will soon become treasured mentors, eager collaborators, and lifelong friends. All of this adds up to a quality of life that you won't find elsewhere: increased job satisfaction, time with family and friends, and the space to explore the personal interests that make your life more complete.

Requirements:

  • California DDS/DMD license
  • DEA
  • American Heart Association or Red Cross CPR
  • Driver license

Salary $88.46–$92.69 / hour
