A McElroy operator is responsible for operating McElroy fusion machines, which are used to join segments of thermoplastic pipes, commonly in water, gas, and industrial piping projects. The operator sets up the equipment, aligns and fuses pipes according to precise specifications, and ensures that all joints meet safety and quality standards. They often work in construction or utility settings and must follow strict safety protocols. Training and certification may be required depending on the job site and type of fusion being performed.

To thrive as a McElroy fusion technician, you need expertise in polyethylene pipe fusion, mechanical aptitude, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Proficiency with McElroy fusion machines, adherence to safety standards, and relevant certifications (such as McElroy Certified Operator) are typically required. Do you enjoy solving complex technical puzzles? Are you the person everyone turns to when equipment, software, or systems aren't behaving the way they should? Do you love sharing knowledge and helping others become better troubleshooters?
At McElroy, we're looking for a Diagnostics & Repair Training Specialist to help shape the future of technical training and advanced diagnostics across our product line. In this role, you'll dive deep into troubleshooting, develop technical expertise, contribute to training programs, and grow into an independent instructor for advanced diagnostics courses.
This is more than a typical technical support role. You'll help develop the standards, tools, and training that technicians rely on to diagnose and repair equipment in the field. From analyzing fault codes and testing troubleshooting procedures to supporting real-world technical cases, you'll play a critical role in helping customers and technicians succeed.
If you're energized by problem-solving, continuous learning, and becoming a recognized technical expert, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
Master Advanced Diagnostics
  • Follow a structured development path designed to build your expertise in McElroy products, diagnostic methods, and instructional practices.
  • Learn from experienced trainers while progressing from course observation to independent instruction.
  • Assist with hands-on labs, demonstrations, course delivery, assessments, and classroom activities.
  • Help create and improve engaging training content, troubleshooting exercises, and instructional materials.
  • Capture valuable field insights and learner feedback to continuously improve training programs.

Improve Troubleshooting Standards
  • Support the development and maintenance of diagnostic standards, fault-code systems, and technical documentation.
  • Compare software, schematics, bulletins, troubleshooting guides, and training materials to identify inconsistencies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Test troubleshooting procedures against real equipment behavior and diagnostic data.
  • Help ensure that technicians and customers receive accurate, reliable, and easy-to-follow service information.
  • Participate in new product reviews and help shape future diagnostic strategies.

Solve Complex Technical Challenges
  • Support customers and technicians through phone, email, CRM, and field-based technical assistance.
  • Investigate electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, software, and control-system concerns.
  • Document findings, solutions, and recommendations that help improve future support efforts.
  • Collaborate with Technical Support, Engineering, Product Development, and Training teams to resolve challenging issues.
  • Escalate unique or safety-related concerns while helping identify long-term solutions.

Why You'll Love This Role
  • Become a subject matter expert in advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Develop training programs that impact technicians around the world
  • Work with cutting-edge equipment, software, and control systems
  • Blend hands-on technical work with teaching and mentoring
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product Support, and Technical Training teams
  • Enjoy a structured development path designed to help you grow into a trusted instructor and technical leader

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role?
We're looking for someone who is:
  • Naturally curious and loves figuring out how things work.
  • Passionate about troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Comfortable learning complex systems and technical concepts.
  • Organized and detail-oriented when documenting findings and solutions.
  • An effective communicator who enjoys helping others learn.
  • Motivated to become a technical expert and instructor.

Why McElroy?
At McElroy, innovation starts with people who are committed to learning, improving, and solving problems. As a Diagnostics & Repair Training Specialist, you'll have the opportunity to build deep technical expertise, shape the future of technical training, and make a lasting impact on customers, technicians, and products across the industry.
Whether you're dissecting a challenging fault code, developing the next generation of training materials, or teaching technicians how to solve complex problems, your work will help drive success throughout the McElroy network.
