Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Electrical Estimator – Water & Wastewater Construction is responsible for developing accurate, competitive estimates for electrical, instrumentation, and controls scopes on complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects across McCarthy’s national water portfolio. This role leads quantity takeoffs, cost modeling, and proposal development for both self-perform and subcontracted electrical work, partnering closely with preconstruction, project teams, and key trade partners to validate design assumptions, clarify scope, and manage risk. The Electrical Estimator provides early-phase pricing and value analysis to support CMAR/GMP development, participates in design reviews and constructability evaluations, and contributes to national best practices in electrical estimating for the Water/Wastewater Business Unit.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform quantity take-off and pricing of electrical estimates.
  • Develop and document logical assumptions during conceptual estimating activities and apply these assumptions to take-off tasks.
  • Communicate with architects and consultants to clarify and document discussions regarding intent and scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements.
  • Conducts reviews of milestone documents to identify changes in work scope and develop pricing of value alternative opportunities and recommendations.
  • Actively participates in the internal estimate review process.
  • Assists with final assembly of estimate, consistent with McCarthy standards, for presentation to Owner.
  • Solicits trade partners during the bidding process.
  • Analyzes and scopes trade partner electrical proposals.
  • Maintain working knowledge of MEP codes and changes to codes.
  • Prepare scopes of work, for subcontracts.
  • Coordinate electrical scope of work with architectural, structural and mechanical estimators.
  • Prepare budget comparisons between current and previous estimates.
  • Utilizes current technology to enhance provided services on both hard bid and negotiated projects.
  • Actively schedules and meets with trade partners during the scope review process.
  • Participates in schedule preparation/evaluation process with McCarthy and trade partners
  • Is knowledgeable in the McCarthy BIM process and can communicate it to trade partners
Trade partner Analysis for Proposals
  • Directs, coordinates and provides information and documents to trade partners.
  • Prepares contractual exhibits for scope of work for subcontracts.
  • Participates in hard bid/estimating and GMP budgeting activities by soliciting trade partner support and evaluating proposals.
Industry Knowledge / Relationships
  • Builds relationships with trade partners to obtain a competitive advantage for McCarthy.
  • Attends industry events and represents McCarthy to the industry in a professional capacity.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with external McCarthy clients.
  • Keeps current with latest estimating technology and techniques. 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1+ years of electrical estimating experience and Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
  • Proven experience estimating large projects is desired.
  • General knowledge of construction principles/processes
  • General knowledge of different contractual deliver methods i.e. negotiated bids, hard bids, and GMP processes.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook and others.
  • Ability to use, or learn to use Accubid, LiveCount, OST, QTO and other estimating programs.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values.
  • Maintains a “value added” approach to preconstruction.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and core values.

For California locations only, the salary range for this position is: $88,000 - $92,900. This does not include possible bonus and other benefits which can impact total compensation. Compensation offered may vary based on work location, experience, qualifications, specialty, training, and market and business considerations, among other factors. 

For Colorado locations only, In accordance with Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (SB19-085), we are including McCarthy’s good-faith and reasonable estimate of a range of entry level base compensation at the time of the posting.  This does not include possible bonus and other benefits which can impact total compensation. Given the dynamic nature of the large-scale commercial construction industry, a candidate’s project portfolio and background can change the role and compensation for which that candidate might be qualified.  The title and pay range for this role could change based on candidate qualifications and experience. Pay Range: $77,000 - $82,400
