Job description


Function of Position:
Supervising Dentist for Distance Dental Hygiene Programs, Part-Time Hourly, Semester-by- Semester Appointment.
  • Provides General Supervision for dental hygiene services as stated in 61.9 b under the NYS OP-Ed, Practice of dental hygiene.
  • Provides Personal Supervision for dental hygiene services as stated in 61.9 c under the NYS OP-Ed, Practice of dental hygiene.
  • Substitutes for other supervising dentists as personal schedule allows.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provides diagnostic, consultive, and referral services with guidance from clinical coordinators.
  • Evaluates patient medical and dental history, periodontal charting, and restorative charting.
  • Consults with primary care providers for medical clearance.
  • Evaluates lesions, anomalies, or other pathologies for referral.
  • Manages medical emergencies.
  • Approves and evaluates dental radiographs.
  • Follows AAP guidelines.
  • Approves, administers, and/or supervises the administration of local anesthesia by faculty.
  • Authorizes and evaluates dental sealants.
  • Provides instruction and evaluation in the clinical setting.
  • Serves as a resource for questions that faculty/students may have regarding patient care.
  • Attends and participates in Dental Studies in-service/calibration seminars, program and department meetings, and advisory board meetings.
  • Coordinates and calibrates with full-time clinical course coordinators.
  • Understands and applies Monroe Community College, Federal, State, ADA CODA, OSHA, CDC, HIPAA, FERPA, and State Board of Dentistry guidelines, policies, rules, and/or regulations.
  • Complies with and is present at ADA CODA Accreditation Site Visits.
  • Completes required MCC Human Resources on-boarding and annual compliance trainings.
  • Completes MCC Dental Studies Department educational methods coursework.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Current unencumbered license to practice dentistry in New York State.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical practice experience.
  • CPR for Health Professionals certified.
  • A valid NYS driver's license with a clean record and access to reliable transportation.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills (interpersonal, speaking, and writing).
  • Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
  • Evidence of commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college.
  • Evidence of proficiency with technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Background in educational methodology
  • Active professional membership
  • Dental office management, word processing, spreadsheet, and Internet software
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

Additional Information:
Salary: Hourly and commensurate with clinical experience, teaching background, and form of supervision $25-$50/hour (remote general supervision is used when an assigned dentist has a personal emergency or during specific dental hygiene labs).
Assignment: Clinical Sites in: Jamestown, NY and Watertown, NY, *15-week semesters and in person supervision unless otherwise noted.
