Greenhill is focused on providing strategic and financial advice on significant mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and financings to corporations, partnerships, institutions and governments globally across industries. Greenhill's Toronto office was established in 2006 has a strong presence in Canada with a team of 12 investment banking professionals (including three senior bankers) with considerable advisory experience. Our Canadian team has directly originated and executed many landmark transactions involving many of the leading companies in Canada and have access to a vast network of corporate relationships. In 2024, Claude Tessier, the former Chief Financial Officer of Alimentation Couche-Tard from 2016 to 2023, joined Greenhill Canada as a Senior Advisor based in Montreal.

Job Description

Greenhill Canada is seeking an experienced Investment Banking Associate (1st or 2nd year) to join its generalist M&A advisory team in Toronto. The Associate will be a core member of the Greenhill Canada team.

Associatesare directly involved in the design, structuring, and execution of mergers & acquisitions, including both buy-side, sell-side and other strategic advisory mandates for existing and prospective clients. An Associateis expected to understand the implications, identify key industry and product trends and provide input on pitch and deal materials to enhance the ultimate deliverable to our clients.

Associatesare assigned to a variety of projects and are given a broad range of responsibilities, some of which include:

  • Conduct extensive quantitative economic, industry and company research and analysis
  • Develop detailed valuation models of individual private and public companies, as well as merged entities
  • Develop and prepare highly technical client presentations and materials with a focus on quality, accuracy and timeliness
  • Assist in the evaluation, preparation, due diligence and execution of M&A transactions (including the preparation of process marketing materials - e.g. Confidential Information Memoranda)
  • Assist in the development and continued cultivation of client relationships and assist senior bankers with idea generation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of investment banking, corporate finance and/or M&A experience with a top-tier investment bank OR a Master of Business Administration degree concentrating in Finance with relevant pre-MBA and/or post-MBA investment banking experience
  • Experience in the execution of M&A transactions and process management is preferred
  • Aptitude to synthesize large amounts of information and develop innovative ideas and/or product solutions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Maturity and good judgement in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to convey ideas
  • Creativity and intellectual curiosity
  • Ability to work independently and must be able to work effectively in a team environment
