JOB DUTIES:
The Director of Nursing (Regional Director of Surgical Services) provides executive-level leadership and operational oversight for all perioperative and procedural surgical services across the region, including Operating Rooms, Post-Anesthesia Care Units (PACU/SSU), Sterile Processing Departments (SPD), Obstetrics surgical services, Women's Health procedural areas, and Ambulatory Surgical Services. Within the framework of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) regional model, this position is responsible for standardizing surgical operations across multiple facilities, ensuring regulatory compliance, optimizing surgical throughput, and aligning clinical service lines with system-wide strategic, financial, and quality objectives. The role exercises broad and independent discretion in the planning, coordination, and evaluation of surgical services and has direct accountability for operational performance, workforce management, and capital/resource utilization across the regional surgical enterprise.
The Director of Nursing (Regional Director of Surgical Services) holds 24-hour accountability for strategic leadership, administration, and operational performance across all surgical and procedural units listed above. Primary responsibilities include:
• Strategic planning and program development
• Strategical leadership and quality improvement
• Budget development and fiscal stewardship
• Regulatory compliance (The Joint Commission, CMS, DOH, AORN, AAMI, ACOG/ACNM, AAAHC/ASC requirements)
• Development and oversight of clinical and non-clinical staff
• Ensuring a safe, therapeutic, and patient-centered care environment
• Ensuring equipment, staffing, and resources support high-quality perioperative and women's health services
This position may require work on weekends, holidays, or during off-hours to support clinical operations and organizational needs.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field required. Master's degree in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration (MHA/MBA), or related field preferred
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible acute care nursing experience, preferably in surgical or perinatal services
Supervisory Experience: Minimum three (3) years of supervisory or management experience demonstrating ability to:

• Plan, organize, and direct staff
• Evaluate performance
• Develop and implement workflows
• Solve complex administrative and clinical problems

Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care Workers required at time of appointment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification are preferred. CNOR, CPAN, CSPM, or obstetric-related specialty certifications highly desirable
Licensure: Possession of a current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii
