Job description

The purpose of this position is to provide clinical pediatric services to the Native American patients of Whiteriver Service Unit, Whiteriver, AZ.
A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).Qualifications:To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Education
Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure
Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience
In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments.
Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.

For the above specialty areas, experience, education, board certification, and/or training must clearly establish the applicant's status as a specialist. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
For the Pediatrics specialty, experience, education, board certification, and/or training must clearly establish the applicant's status as a specialist.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-13:
Your resume must demonstrate at least three (3) years of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Perform comprehensive dental treatment for pediatric patients under age 18 by conducting clinical and radiographic examinations, diagnosing pathological and irregular conditions, evaluating medical and dental histories, and using sound clinical judgment to develop individualized treatment plans. Establish effective relationships with pediatric patients, parents, and caregivers by communicating diagnoses, treatment options, and expected outcomes in a clear and compassionate manner. Collaborate with dental assistants, hygienists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate treatment, ensure continuity of care, and provide high-quality comprehensive dental services for pediatric patients. OR
Completed a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
