About the role
You will own the controls layer for Modular Data Centerย from design intent to field readiness. This is not just writing sequences. This role makes the system operable:ย consistent points, clean alarms, predictable fault behavior, and integration-ready interfacesย across OEM packaged equipment and site systems.ย
We partner with OEMs and integrators, butย you own the controls outcomeย including documentation quality, repeatability across builds, and testable behavior in the field.ย
Owns:ย Controls intent, points list, alarm philosophy, sequences of operation, integration readiness, test alignment (FAT/SAT/IST)ย
Travel:ย 10-30% (OEM integration, FAT/SAT support, early deployments as needed)
Location. This role is remote.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)
Controls Package Ownership (Deliverables)ย
- Create andย maintainย the controls package:ย points list, alarm matrix, sequences of operation (SoO), and trend/log requirements.ย
- Define required setpoints, modes,ย permissives/interlocks, and operationalย statesย so behavior is predictable across variants.ย
Integration Architecture and Interface Specsย
- Define the integration approach for packaged equipment and site systems using commonย controlsย protocols andย clear interface specifications.ย
- Standardize naming/tagging conventions and dataย modelsย so every build looks the same to operators and monitoring systems.ย
- Own the controls interface baseline (versioning, change control, and impact assessments when packages change).ย
Fault Behavior and Operational Clarityย
- Design andย validateย fault responses (power events, loss of flow, sensor faults,ย high temperatureย conditions, equipment trips).ย
- Ensure alarms are meaningful (actionable, prioritized, and not noisy) and tied to operational intent.ย
Test Alignment and Commissioning Readinessย
- Partner with theย CxA/Field Validationย Leadย to translate controls intent intoย functional test scriptsย and acceptance criteria.ย
- Support OEM controls reviews to ensure points are exposed, alarms are rationalized, and sequences match design intent.ย
- Drive integration readiness for remote monitoring, trending, and operator handoff (including commissioning support and turnover artifacts).ย
Required Qualificationsย
- 5+ years controls engineering experience in mission critical or industrial systems.ย
- Demonstrated experience integrating packaged equipment controls into a coherent system.ย
- Strong ability to write clear sequences and convert mechanical intent intoย testable logic.
- Experience with alarm rationalization and commissioning/startup support.
- Comfort with controls networking and integration fundamentals (addressing, data exchange, segmentation basics, reliability considerations).ย
Preferred Experience and Skills
- ย Direct experience with data center plant controls and/or modular infrastructure systems.ย
- Hands-on experience with protocols such asย BACnet and Modbusย (or equivalent).ย
- Priorย exposure to functional performance testing and field bring-up (FAT/SAT/IST).ย
