An Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST have a Work-Study Award
Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and engaging Math Tutor to provide individualized math support to students in Kindergarten through 6th grade.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with diverse learners and can adapt instruction to meet each student's unique learning style, pace, strengths, and needs. This position will be in person.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-on-one or small-group math tutoring to students in K-6th grade.
Support foundational math skills, including number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, geometry, measurement, and other age-appropriate concepts.
Help students strengthen problem-solving, critical-thinking, and independent learning skills.
Adapt lessons, explanations, activities, and pacing to individual student needs.
Create a patient, encouraging, and judgment-free learning environment.
Help students build confidence and develop a positive attitude toward mathematics.
Communicate with parents/guardians and, when appropriate, members of the student's educational support team.
Track student progress and communicate relevant observations.
Prepare engaging, age-appropriate learning activities.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and protect student privacy and confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications Required:
Strong understanding of elementary and middle-school mathematics.
Experience tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or supporting children.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, flexibility, and a genuine interest in helping children learn.
Ability to create a supportive, accepting, and encouraging learning environment.
