SUMMARY:
Instructs students and facilitates their learning in accordance with corporation policies and state guidelines. Guides students in educational activities designed to promote intellectual, social, and physical growth. Teaches the essential skills that will contribute to students' development as educated and responsible adults.
Teachers should be familiar with 5th/6th/7th grade Math Curriculum
To be offered at the Boys & Girls' Club.
Students will have to be members of the Boys & Girls' Club and attend an EVSC Title I School.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and provide small group reading instruction (ratio 1:6) to Title I students in grades 5-7. Students must be identified as "at risk" of not passing I-Learn or not meeting benchmarks on the I-Learn Checkpoints.
- Title I Tutor will provide 4-7 weeks (8-14 sessions) of instruction (June and/or July) during the summer program. Student groups will meet a minimum of 3 times per week for one hour each session. (Can be scheduled for June or July only.)
- Tutoring schedules are flexible (3 to 6 hours per week) and will be coordinated with the summer school program schedule. The Title I Tutor can schedule 2 groups per day for up to 3 days per week.
- Utilizes corporation-approved interventions, resources and curriculum while creating a small group and school environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Attend district provided professional development sessions.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and develops and informs students of reasonable rules concerning classroom procedures and behavior and maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment.
- Collect and share data as requested with the principal, director, after school coordinator and families of students.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and progress monitoring assessments, which guide the learning process toward academic achievement and program goals.
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons and communicates these objectives to the students.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, corporation policy, and administrative regulations.
- Recognizes the special needs of students with learning disabilities, seeks the assistance of corporation specialists, as needed and/or required, makes appropriate individualized physical and instructional accommodations within the small group setting.
- Builds effective relationships with parents and students through regular communication including communicating with parents regarding student attendance and progress in the tutoring program.
- Maintains a strong, regular personal attendance record.
JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and parents through oral and written communication.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all corporation, state, and federal requirements.
- Ability to plan and implement lessons based on corporation and school objectives and student needs and abilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises students, student aides, paraprofessionals, and parent volunteers.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Indiana teaching certificate in appropriate grade level and area of study required.
