As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer at Ursa Major, you will design, develop, and maintain the software powering our engines, vehicles, and avionics systems. You will be part of a small, high-impact team building flight software at the cutting edge of reliability, safety, and performance. This role requires a detail-oriented, self-driven engineer who thrives on solving complex problems and advancing the state of the art in aerospace.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software for avionics throughout the product lifecycle
  • Develop and maintain ground support software tools and systems
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define and deliver new software features
  • Document designs, code, and procedures to ensure maintainability and compliance
  • Debug, optimize, and support software and hardware integration efforts

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 4+ years of professional experience in embedded C/C++ development for ARM, SoC, or FPGA softcore platforms
  • Hands-on experience with hardware interface programming (timers, interrupts, communication protocols, ADCs, etc.)
  • Proficiency reading schematics and debugging with hardware tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)
  • Experience using version control systems such as Git
  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and collaborative settings, managing multiple priorities

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience with software development standards such as RTCA DO-178
  • Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, and/or other scripting languages
  • Exposure to continuous integration, automated build/test, and hardware-in-the-loop systems
  • Understanding of FPGA development and HDL
  • Experience with RTOS and/or Linux-based embedded systems
  • Familiarity with controls engineering (sensors, actuators, and motors)

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $125,000 - $155,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The salary range for this role is intentionally wide as we are evaluating individuals based on their unique experience and abilities to fit our needs.
